You might not want to hear this, but I guarantee you that they've released enough information for folks completely unassociated with the company and with no special incentives to buy trucks.

*You* may need more, but that doesn't mean everyone does.

For example, I don't need a test drive - I trust the automotive press consensus on that.
For another example, Rivian Membership pricing is irrelevant to my purchase decision.

If they called me right now and said "Want to complete your Max Pack purchase and pick it up today? But we can't tell you a single thing more than you already know," my answer would be "yes"

And I'm fairly confident I'm not the only one with that view.

---

Also, as I've mentioned in this thread, there's absolutely no way I would let people here know if I did have my truck and were driving around in it at will.

And I'm fairly confident I'm not the only one with that view, as well.
This. Right. Here.

I can promise I didn't know the wheel offset, towing capacity, tenths of millimeters of hip room, angle of rear passenger knees, or nylon content of the seating when I purchased my Camry.

Not salty about other people getting it first. Based on my preorder number (pretty early but somewhere around 3500) I already knew there were a few thousand before me plus employees. Salty about being misled. Please don't respond with "then cancel".
If you keep complaining about the same thing over and over, you will get the same response over and over.
Time to cancel

How many Camrys have been sold? Can you go even a mile without seeing one on the road? If you were interested in buying one, it's easy to go look at one, sit in it, drive it...

I assume you're being hyperbolic, but let's address your specific points, directly:

1. Wheel offset is something I've seen asked on other car/suv/truck forums. People want to be able to swap wheels -- whether for aesthetic or weather-related reasons.
2. These are trucks. I promise tow ratings matter to most truck buyers. Ever go to a Ford/Chevy/Ram/Toyota/Nissan forum? They care about this. I doubt many Camry owners care. In fact, if I saw a Camry towing, I'd probably try to stay away from them, on the road.
3. Interior dimensions matter. With a Camry, most people know what to expect, and you can go sit in one if you really want to get a feel for it. In the absence of being able to sit in a R1T, specs are all we have to try to gauge if it will meet our needs.
4. Similar to above.
5. Pure hyperbole, so not worth addressing.

The questions are because people aren't familiar with the product. When most of them were first asked, it was impossible to see one and sit in it; now it's possible, but still difficult for those not in one or two limited areas.

I mean, you're ahead of me in line! Numerically anyways. And I'll fully admit that I probably have a rosier outlook on things since I was contacted by my Guide.

That being said, I don't think Rivian has been any more intentionally misleading than any other company trying to weather the pandemic and the chip shortage and the entire global supply chain doing its best impression of the Hindenburg.

I'll be the first admit that Rivian absolutely sucks at communicating with its customers. Like, they should take up employment with Dyson, that's how much they suck at it. But I think most of the things people think they've been "mislead" on can be explained by the fact that shit is just really unpredictable right now. Things happen, stuff gets delayed, or changed, or whatever.

I'm not in ANY way trying to excuse their god-awful, holy shit, WTF-levels of bad communication. But I think people's frustration with the delays and such might be tinting their perceptions of things.

Rivian's Communication Department isn't evil, its just useless.
Agreed. You don't feel like the guide contacts were a charade? I doubt you have much more information about what's happening than someone who hasn't been contacted. When did your guide say you would get your vehicle?

I would think the IPO roadshow would be the next best opportunity to get firmer information on upcoming delivery timing and volume. Probably 2-3 weeks out. As a little speculation after noting the amazon stake size I sincerely doubt you will see much volume from the R1 production line untill the delivery van line is humming completely

In my mind at least, charade and such terminology implies that Rivian is knowingly and purposely deceiving people. And I just don’t think that’s the case.

I think they’re just doing what they think we want, given how many variables are in play. Granted, they’re not doing a good job of it, but I don’t think they’re actively trying to lie or deceive anyone.

As of like three days ago (when I last spoke with my guide) I’m still scheduled for delivery “at some point” in November

Oh nice. That's great news if it's true. I'll be very happy to see that a non employee got a vehicle.

Plus 1. This has been my opinion since I read the first S-1. Amazon just has too much leverage. It can pretty much walk from a 100,000 vehicle order, owing only development costs.

I’m certainly hoping it’s true as well. At any rate, I’ll keep the forum abreast of any new developments!

I'm actually low-key okay if they decide to do this. I'm certain there will be no shortage of takers for those vans, from vanlifers to logistics companies to van rental companies - not to mention a renewed focus on getting R1's out the door first.

Regardless of the verbiage, the lack of information and continued misinformation is most certainly deliberate and controlled. Has been and by all indications will continue to be.

?‍♂ I fully disagree, but hey, you’re entitled to your opinion. Maybe I’m just overly-optimistic, but I just don’t see any nefarious plots going on.

Don't you think another official delay would make them lose billions in the IPO?
