The 100th Rivian Adventure Network station is now unofficially open in Flagler, Colorado!!

A user on PlugShare just reported a successful charge at the site, with this photo provided. The plastic wrap is still on the cable, that's pretty much an indicator of how recently it was activated.

Sweet! That will make the trips to Denver from KC or Wichita much faster - avoid the stop at the slower ChargePoint systems in Burlington, CO...

Kinda funny that the map on PlugShare doesn't point out the I-70 Diner that this is associated with, but has markers for the coffee shop and liquor store.

No indication yet if this is open to other vehicles or strictly Rivian vehicles for now. It's not listed in the Rivian app, so we can't check there.

It's the Gen 1.5 dispenser unit; you can tell by the height and the card reader on the side. I'm assuming it'll be open to everyone momentarily if it's not already.

Glad they got to 100 but they are really slowing down. They had 82 or so at the end of the second quarter so that means only 18 in 6 months. Hopefully the next 100 is faster than the first.

It feels like they had about six in the last week. My guess is they slowed down the rollout due to the new stuff not being quite ready, but still wanted to open some new sites which I imagine were specifically targeted to be good for Rivian-only access.

I’m just amazed at how long it takes to get stations up and running.

Both EA and Tesla started sites at IKEA in Costa Mesa, CA over a year ago.

They pretty much have looked ready to go for several months now but I drove by them a few days ago and still not in service.

They have been sitting around so long someone stole the cables of around 10 of the Tesla chargers a few weeks ago. I could not see from the street the other day if they were replaced yet or not.

The EA stations were in for a couple of months, drove by 1 day and a crew was taking them out, I asked them if they were going away and he said no, they are just updating to the newer units. The crew had no idea when they would be in service, newer units have been in place for a while now.

Are there different rates for Rivian owners than non-Rivian owners?

There are, you can see the rates on the Rivian app. Similar to Tesla rates.

Joshua Tree is 45 cents for Rivian vehicles and 60 cents for others. I do not see them offering a membership yet like Tesla does but I assume when they get enough open they probably will.

My earnest (unprofessional and not-in-the-know) theory would be the difficulties in spinning up these sites is moreso related to bureaucracy and red tape (permitting, inspections, local utility compliance rules, laws and schedules) than it does equipment, labor, and infrastructural availability.

Just a guess, though..

All of that and the utility needing to update that section of the grid for the increased load demands.

There's also been a large backlog on transformer cabinets that is slowing down installs on many things, not just EV fast-chargers.

Bureaucracy is just killing progress.

I’d say it’s mostly the utilities. Lots of sites including superchargers have been waiting on transformers.

But it’s also Rivian since they don’t have the staff that Tesla or EA has.
100% the paperwork that has to be done with the utility is absurd, and they are very inefficient at processing requests.

That being said, municipalities are also quite slow on providing permits.
