I mean yes there is storage elsewhere, but lack of a glovebox and removing the cubby is a bit annoying honestly. Sure there’s the drawer now, but what if you opt for the speaker? RivianTracker also stating that the removal doesn’t seem to be because of the 12V placement.
Rivian tracker is just some guy like all of us AFAIK, not someone who speaks for Rivian so that’s just speculative.

Removing any feature is going to seem like an annoyance. If it helps Rivian turn a profit the annoyance is worth it.

It's one thing to cut costs - but these are just annoying cuts. Where do they expect people to store documents - these cubbies were already undersized to begin with. I'd never find my registration again if I stored it in the center console black hole.

It's in the same category as the early elimination of the 12v power under the dash.
I'd trade the under seat cubby (which I have) for the dash 12v (which I don't have) 100 times out of 100. That's the single most annoying deletion that Rivian has made.

One of these days I'm going to pull out the frunk tub & see if mine was one of the ones that has the socket / wiring in place still (built right around the cutoff).

Saw that RivianTracker posted about the passenger cubby getting removed from new builds for cost saving measures… no glovebox and cubby removed too… how much are they really saving here?

haha I’m just curious how much they’re actually saving by removing that cubby, but I’m sure there’s more to it. Just thought it was an interesting move

Like Donald said here, I’m all for Rivian turning a profit. I love the vehicle and will definitely be getting another when my Gen1 warranty is over.

again I’m sure there’s much more to this than we understand as consumers

It may seem trivial but there's a lot of different parts that go into making that cubby. I'm sure it's a LOT cheaper to have the simple, continuous, piece across the front with no cubby. As far as decontenting, I think this was a good move as most people probably don't use it.

Yeah I’m sure. I guess I’m in the minority that actually uses it. I keep my registration there since it’s not touched often

Well, glad I got my Gen2 when they first rolled out. I use it for my sunglasses. Would be annoying to not have a spot for them anywhere, especially with no glovebox, which is, let’s face it, weird. Though, having to use voice to open the one in my Tesla makes it pretty useless and there’s no sunglasses storage in the Y either. But, I get the need to simplify and try to make money. Wonder what else will be shaved off as the Gen2 production numbers increase and they face the next quarterly sales figures.

Gotta love this forum and our collective ability to get worked up over these little cubbies. Long live Rivian Forums!

But not only does it save Rivian a little bit on each car (and, probably more importantly, it reduces overall complexity), it may increase demand for the $45 storage bin organizer.

Anyone else have the organizer on their holiday gift list? It’s just the kind of thing you want but feel dumb paying for—but if someone GIVES it to you…

Someone should give you one of the other ones that are better for much cheaper.

Regardless, the overreactions are hilarious, given there are other storage features, readily accessible by both driver and passenger. It's a false equivalent to 12V socket, since there are no other 12V sockets remaining.
I would be more upset that I didn't have a great location to store my sunglasses.

I'm much more in the camp of: this was a very useful feature and I don't think it is worth the squeeze to go and remove it to save on cost for a vehicle that is this expensive.

I am with you...

Especially for the "premium" Ascent interior. To me...that packaging should definitely include: Meridian audio, drawers that were present at launch or more, more outlets, seats with added functionality not just colors and stitching patterns, a physical key, etc... Something to push buyers to higher price points.

I get the lowest price point vehicles could and probably should have the reductions in standard equipment, but not the premium high cost trims.

To be fair Rivian did add several premium features above and beyond the Adventure trim. The Ascend interior is definitely a step above the base truck, and I had a '22 previously with all the wood trim.

There's one piece to this that none of us know. Perhaps these drawers have a high failure rate. If there are high warranty costs to repair failed seat drawers because a customer stuffed it too full and broke it, I could see that justifying removing them. Maybe it saves .02 per car in installation costs and 5 dollars per car in warranty and repair costs.

I use my Stow-N-Charge for that. Absolutely solid design that Rivian should've included from the factory, imo. But I guess if they did everything, there'd be less room for aftermarket hardware developers to sell products. ??
