Hi all,

Anyone have an idea of what these warnings mean? Is the vehicle safe to drive? I know it’s in turtle mode (speed limited to 51mph) and a number of other features (adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic unavailable) but it is driveable. Any suggestions before I contact Rivian?

Thanks!

Looks like it’s a suspension issue. I just got the same last night, though in a R1T, so the icon’s a little different. I didn’t get turtle mode, though, and was able to continue driving at normal speeds, just without the ability to adjust the ride height or firmness (and it got absurdly firm). After a hard reset, and then 10-15 minutes driving, everything reverted to normal, but I still made and appointment with service to be safe, and because it’s a suspension issue, they‘ve made it a priority ticket, and are trying to get me in earlier.

Thanks Josh,

Just got off the phone with Rivian. We did a hard reset which killed the warnings, but they came back on again as I drove around the block. The service rep, Kay, put in for a priority service appt. He says the car’s safe to drive, just NOT on SoCal freeways.

Peace!

I had something very similar. It got diagnosed as a bad ABS sensor, w/ nothing seriously wrong with the suspension.

Good luck! We’ve got a 2,000 mile drive coming up in a couple weeks, so hopefully they can find a way to get us in…

I guess I still don't understand why people aren't just going to Rivian when they have issues with their R1's. Internet forums aren't really filled with Rivian experts, just Rivian owners and if there's a problem we'll just comment, commiserate, ask more (maybe dumb) questions and you'll still have to contact Rivian.

Best practice is to call/contact Rivian first, then internet away, but don't wait for us to move forward.

My friend had this issue. He figured it out after taking the R1T to the service center. A rat had chewed through the wiring, and he ended up having to replace the entire wiring harness, which cost 15,000 CAD. Hopefully, your issue is something different."

All the symbols are documented in the Owners Manual. But I still think the online community is a great source of fresh ideas and shared experiences. Certainly not a replacement for Rivian service but still a great resource for us all.

The service manager at my local SC told me about a couple who had a rat infested R1S and spent similar money as the rat ate most of the insulation off the 12 volt wires. He said the critters really like EVs and suggested we put in a couple of traps to make sure we don't end up with a huge bill. On another note, I guess natural selection will eliminate any rats that decide a 400 volt cable's insulation is tasty?

Because most of the time, Rivian is the worst source for actual Rivian info.

I speculate about the "math" this way, @Rivian Owner. If one rat dies after causing $4000 worth of wiring damage, and in the meantime that rat's brothers and sisters have had 40 pups, we'll run out of repair money long before the rats run out of appetite for the wires. (NOTE: These are conservative estimates about rat reproduction. Small rodents don't live long, but their prodigious reproductive rates make up for it.)

Rodents aren't as smart, individually or collectively, as humans are. Rats can't do epidemiology to deduce what's killing them -- that's why bait stations work.

After discussing rodent-damage potential with our exterminator, we're paying another $20/month (total) for two extra bait stations in the driveway, each positioned under the front of one of the Rivians.

Assuming what's in the bait stations is more attractive to the rats than what's on the wires, that seems like extremely cheap protection for the vehicles.

Very best wishes!

Very true, but you forgot one thing......

When the rat eats the 400 volt insulation and fries and starts a big fire, the house burns down, along with the rat's nest and all of the little baby rats die in the fire so natural selection does take place. No rats were harmed in making this post........

At the risk of stating the obvious, @Rivian Owner, maybe rats aren't the only species subject to natural selection in your scenario....

Thanks for the laugh!
