Overnight, When I unplug the charge cable from my R1T, the charger door does not close automatically. Even touching the 3 lines doesn't close the door. I end up locking and unlocking the doors, then I can touch the 3 lines and close the door.

My model Y, automatically closes a few sec after removing the charge cable.

is there a setting somewhere?

thanks

If your vehicle is in sleep state, will not close on its own. Once wake after period of time it will close. If you put in Drive, it will close.

Your complaint is it doesn't work exactly like a Tesla? People complained when Rivian automatically shut the door when the plug was removed - search for "chop chop". The door will close by itself eventually. I don't know how long the time-out period is - never bothered to time it. And of course when you go into gear to drive, it will close automatically.

I've had 3 Tesla's and one Rivian. Tesla software is superior to any other for the time being. Tesla's approach seems to be keep it simple stupid (KISS) principle. Granted, Tesla has 10+ year head start on most everyone else writing EV software. But I do expect over the next 5 years others to catch up.

as for the charge port, there is no need to keep it open after removing the charge cable. The door is just something to get snagged on in the garage. Unfortunately, the charge port is near all my extension cords and tools hanging on the wall.

The Tesla auto close is so annoying, I personally prefer the touch to close on the Rivian. Mine always works though, I’ve never had to lock/unlock.

This is the only abnormal thing you have described, I think. The rest seems like a design choice made by Rivian--the door does not auto-close after you unplug. It does once you start to drive, though. However, I'm almost certain that touching the "button" should close it if you just finished charging. Whether this is enough of an annoyance to warrant a service inquiry is up to you. On the forum, people are likely to tell you to do the vehicle reset before anything else. Have you tried that?

Coincidentally, when my Tesla is asleep, it takes multiple presses of the button on the HPWC connector to get it to open the charging door. When I had an older Tesla, there were times when I'd have to wake it up first by pressing a door handle.

Maybe you should go back to Tesla if they’re so much better.
I can’t stand all these posts where they act like something is wrong with their Rivian when the vehicle doesn’t behave exactly like a Tesla.
Fyi when I unplug and the car is asleep, the three lines don’t close the charge door either. Instead of being lazy and walking away and letting the rivian do it by itself when I put it into drive. I simply open the drivers door so the truck wakes back up and then close the charge door.
It’s that simple!

Teslas are excellent vehicles. I know. Reason why I own two so far. So is my awesome R1S beast. I think Tesla, by being the first one out in the EV world, it logically became the EV yardstick.
I totally understand @Tlohrenz. Sleep, away, half asleep, dreaming, no matter the state of my Teslas, all I have to do is push the button on the charger handle and voila! The charger door pops open, then closes up automatically shortly after the charger cable is removed. No need to open door, wake car up, talk to it, reach for the app, or drive, etc. That is a very nice feature to have. Perhaps Rivian will get there eventually and fix this.
It does not bother me one bit, the extra work to close the R1S charge port door manually, but it could be made better.

Before you unplug, unlock, or lock and then relock, your truck, and then the door will work.

I usually end up putting something in the backseat before I unplug, so its not been an issue for me.

No, his complaint is that the door doesn't follow a natural and expected behavior to get it out of the way. Some time ago there was a post about a guy's kid running into the door, breaking it off, and injuring himself. Yeah, stupid kid, sure, but it shouldn't just stay out there perpetually either.

This is not a function of your vehicle. There is no “auto close” of the charging door excepting if the door is open when you put the vehicle into drive or reverse.

the 3 lines should work when you unplug. If not, then try a reset

It used to be a feature but then too many people complained about it closing too fast and now we lost that feature. Sucks since mine worked just fine.

If you plug the charge cable back in for a second then take it out the door will be closeable.

If you remove the cable when the truck is asleep, the door won't close. The only way to get the door closed is to wake the vehicle and then use the button, go inside and close from the dash, or put it in gear. It is this way by design and bitching about it won't change the design. Just because Rivian has made the choice to be different than Tesla, doesn't make it wrong and/or one better than the other.
