Just thought I’d add my 2c to this thread. Prior to this update I felt like our 2023 PDM R1S had a little too much weight transfer and roll at high speeds on the highway in moderate stiffness. So much so if I was going quickly I’d normally set it to firm and back to moderate on the local roads.

Firm was too firm for going over speed bumps and even with moderate I felt like my F150 lighting did a better job at them from a comfort perspective.

There was also a touch too much pitch/yaw in the vehicle during roll on roll off.

I’ve got to say Rivian nailed this update. All of these suspension gripes I had have been resolved - so much so it feels like a different ride entirely. Having been electric since 2018 I’ve never seen Tesla, Porsche or Ford push such a material ride quality change in an OTA.

Great work Rivian Team!! You just sealed the deal on me getting a R1T Quad over the Cybertruck. ?

I had mentioned that the only feature I really wanted in the R1S refresh was the updated suspension (and even said I'd be willing to pay $1k a corner for it) - but after driving on the update for a couple of days I no longer feel that way. Of course I now wonder why Rivian couldn't have gotten the configuration out a year ago but that's water under the bridge.

So now all the small / sharp bumps are absorbed well, but as others have posted there is still suspension noise - certainly covered up by music but still something a bit odd compared to other "isolated" vehicles. I think that was another update they must have made in the Gen2 - perhaps there is some sound deadening material that could be retrofitted to Gen1s.

If you have the ability to do a longer range highway trek coming/going and compare low vs high, that would be great.

Getting ready to visit family soon in SoCal and hoping to maximize range given it about 390 miles from where we are now.

If I could get close to that range with pretty much all highway driving would be great but I know I would have one stop guaranteed. Still a man can dream!
If you're originating from the Monterey area, take 101 to Paso and use 46 to 5. If you start with the full or near full charge, you'll make it to Button Wllow where there is a RAN chargers (and food/nature break) From there, you'll make it easily to the OC. If you need to goto SD, you'll probably have to charge again at one of EA/EVgo or Tesla SC with an adapter.

Staying on 101 maybe a better scenery but it is much longer to get down to SoCal. - both from time and distance wise, and there is no RAN so you have to rely on other charging options. The reason I bring this up is because other than Tesla SC, you'll likely double the time require to charge the vehicle due to waiting for an open stall to charge.

Ya my current saved route goes 101 to 46 to 5 stopping at RAN in buttonwillow.

It would be great to see how much efficiency diff there would be on full range at highway speeds by using low vs high regin. Unfortunately unless I had that 400-410 mile range we wouldnt make it to family without a stop.

Currently get about 270 with OEM 20s in AP but changing to a 275/60r20 soon to hopefully boost range about 10-15%. I know my current estimate on the OEM 20s for conserve is 303 so I’ll have to test and see what my efficiency is on the trek with new tires. Low/lowest conserve and low regin

Have completed a few days on the latest update. Have done long hauls on the the highway and some modest off roading.

Verdict? Yes, it's much better. So much so, that "suspension" has slipped from number one complaint into number three.

It's now time to look into noise isolation, and the audio system.

Nice work Rivian team! Impressive.

Yes yes! The suspension in soft is substantially improved. I have to drive through the infamous Portuguese Bend in SoCal every day and the compression rebounding and the ability of the car to soak up bumps is vastly improved. Less clunking from the front suspension after the update but some clunking still there. I think the clunking occurs for certain frequencies. Very impressed nonetheless. Night and day compared to the previous version.

I spent a few hours 4wheeling in Big Bear today. Nothing tough, just washed out logging roads nearby. Didn't air down and on 22s so you get the idea. Lots of Rivians everywhere now. A few in town trying to figure charging options with all the 4th visitors.

No more clunking over big bumps; magic! Ride on and off pavement is greatly improved. I'm pretty impressed. I was worried the extra high setting was gone in the new software but it shows up speed dependent as an option.

Installing the update now and I have a longer drive this afternoon. Can't wait to try out the suspension changes.

I would agree with the general sentiment here that the suspension is improved with the update. Less bouncy and quieter. Overall better. It is a very good change, but not up to some of the over the top claims. One person even said that it is better than a BMW iX. That person could not have possibly ever driven an iX and made that claim with a straight face. The iX was maybe the smoothest and quietest drive I ever experienced. Too bad the rest of the car is a hot mess. Made it very easy to go with the R1S.

I've been driving (gen 1 R1T) with the update for several days now and can't say I've noticed any meaningful difference in ride quality. ?‍♀
That is weird. I had a long drive over broken pavement, clay, gravel, and other relatively poor road surfaces over the last week, and I felt my R1T was dramatically better than it was in past. Substantially less impact harshness and far better roll control and less braking dive.

I updated my 23 Gen 1 yesterday and I would say the truck in soft now feels as though it doesnt lean as much in the turns and feels tighter.

After driving couple of days and about 100 miles on AP/Moderate/Low, I can say that the R1S w/22" drives the best as it ever has.

Still not a fan of Soft, and Firm setting didn't change much (bit better but nothing like the improvements on Moderate). Rivian finally got it right with good firmness and road composure over bumps, rough roads/highways and different surface types.

Now there is a definite difference between Sports/Firm and AP/Moderate.

Good job Rivian!!
