Hey guys. Having a bad day. It hasn't rained in weeks and my lawn would be crying at me (if it had any water). So the first day we get rain, I'm out there stuck in this torrential downpour because I also picked up a nail in my tire. No problem, I think. I'm prepared. It's a bit close to the sidewall, but maybe a plug will help me limp it to a tire store:

So I go to take out my new EV Sportsline jack, open the box and an O-ring falls out. Where the heck is this supposed to go (the diagram wasn't clear), and is it safe to use without it?

Next, I go to take out my Jackpucks, and notice - wait - this doesn't look right? The front holes in my vehicle are about 1/4" off-center from the holes in the plastic trim panels. So nothing lines up:

Is this normal? Anybody else have this problem?

Next, I look a little more closely at my Jackpucks. Wait a minute, this doesn't look right, either. Isn't the hole on the bottom supposed to be big enough to sit on top of the jack?

Doesn't match the image on the website at all:

And of course I just got rid of my old floor jack a few weeks ago. Figured I had all I needed... LOL. ?

So before I try to precariously balance this Jackpuck on top of the EV Sportsline jack (that may or may not be missing an O-ring) to lift my vehicle, any suggestions?

I can't help you with the jack pucks, but I usually don't jack the vehicle up when putting in a plug; just use a pliers to pull the nail, run the reamer through the hole then put in the plug and pump the tire to the appropriate pressure. I also usually run the tire with the plug indefinitely if it's holding air.

I'd considered that. Have done it in the past on my old beaters. Just with the weight of the Rivian, I didn't want to drop the entire vehicle on a flat tire. Maybe I'll pile 2x4's underneath it. Man, I'm tired, and this is a stupid problem. ?

That is my preferred method for front wheels. Turn the wheels full lock and drive forward or backward to gain access. If I was desperate I could lay down and fix a rear tire with some effort.

The O-ring is just for a snug fit if your pucks don’t have the magnets. Can safely use the puck without it, but may have to hold it in place until jack makes contact.

Are these the jack pucks with magnets? If not the oring goes on the nipple, there should be a groove to sit in, it helps hold the puck in place.

As for the bottle jack, I would not trust it would not slip, I use a jack stand/ jack combo, it has a much larger plate and rubber pad to rest against the puck.

The suggestion of doing the plug without jacking is a better option, just raise the truck up first.

That is assuming the tire is not holding the air with the nail in it. When I picked up a nail I just drove it to the tire shop with the nail in it. Actually drove it a couple of days before I had it fixed as it was actually holding the air as if it was plugged.

I've plugged a front and rear your on the rivian without even worrying about a jack. Just roll into an easy to access position, let air out (if any left) and proceed with plug process.

The O-ring fell out of the box for the jack itself. Not the Jackpucks. I don't know if I trust the safety of the jack itself, knowing it's missing some random O-ring. ??

Spare O-ring when the original wears out/degrades? My jack pucks look like the bottom photo of the puck you posted and they do fit with bottle jack rod inside the bottom hole on the puck

The O-ring fell out of the jack itself somewhere. Not the jackpucks.

The nail is holding air. It looses a pound every few minutes. If I could be certain any tire shops near me had the right tire in stock, I could make it to one. May make some calls in the morning.

If it came out of the jack box it is probably a spare for the bleeder valve that you loosen to lower the jack. Just check the valve, if it has one on it it should be fine.
