Once the tires' threads get to the point I need to replace them, there will be only one option. I hear that there are many options for 20 inch. Yes, there will be an initial investment for the 2 inch wheels, but it may pay off after 3 tire replacements.I was wondering why you might want to switch from 21" to 20 AT's. I like the 21" street tire because it's quiet, good in deep sand. and gives better mileage. So basically I have no need to switch and would like to understand what I m missing.
20” ride better, have a much greater range of tire options and are better off road. The 10% range hit equates for typical mileage to be less than $100 a year cheaper - so not really an issue for most people and few rarely use the 280+ range daily.I was wondering why you might want to switch from 21" to 20 AT's. 20 AS may be the best option for me as well.I test drove both 20 & 21, and only felt a slight difference. I went with the 20s because of the availability and someone here with 21s got a flat and was stuck for a week in SD waiting for a replacement. I have about 6k miles on them and they ride fine. Once these go, I might get AS instead of AT because I don't do any off roading at all. BTW-my milage is about 2.12.
Yes, just put 275/60/20 AS Pirelli AS Plus 3 tire on 20’s. I have that on my R1S and it’s 7% more efficient than my R1T with 21’s.20 AS may be the best option for me as well.
Correct, the 20” General Grabber HTS60 (275/60R20) is equal to or more efficient than 21” OEM. Riviot, LL75, JJE, ajthonysfl, and many others have data to confirm. Other than wearing out very quick and being expensive, not sure what the key attributes of the 21” tire are.Hi folks,
do I read that many people get better efficiency on 20’ than 21’ … I thought the 21’ with aero covers (r1s) were the best efficiency wise? I often have 620 mi trips one way and my 21 s get us there with 3 or 4 charges…depending on weather or stations issues… or <250 mi range ish from 80 soc /On highway at 75-77 mph in eco with family load. What are the conditions where people get better efficiency than this tire setup please?
That hasn’t been my experience. Got a set of 21s for my day to day use and found ride quality, handling, and noise to be noticeably improved.20” ride better, have a much greater range of tire options and are better off road. Rivian should have ditched the 21" wheel idea for simplicity & production efficiency. i just don't see the benefit of It over the 20 with 275/60 AS or 22.Correct, the 20” General Grabber HTS60 (275/60R20) is equal to or more efficient than 21” OEM.
