I did say that I think Canadian pre order reservations should get to keep their pricing longer. The US preorder reservations need to get one already. I’m glad they don’t get to get an updated R1 for pre price hike prices. That’s not really fair when they could get one now.

I would pester them about whether the voucher can be used for post-shutdown custom builds. If the answer is no, then the voucher can't be applied to "refresh" builds unless they hit the Shop by Sept. 30.

Indeed. I got some bum information from my guide as I otherwise would have taken delivery already, of the configuration I wanted.

I totally understand they should clear out pre-orders, just frustrated to have been given some bad information when I was asking about exactly this issue. And now maybe missed the right configuration.

They need to sell as many vehicles as people are willing to buy, even at a loss to pre-order holders.

What does it benefit them to sell at a loss?

Rivian has done an amazing job holding down the price for this long, even when it was detrimental to them.

Yes, but the loss per unit also went down over time.
They should have at least adjusted for 2-3% inflation/year.

This may actually cost Rivian customers

I don't mind losing jobs/customers that don't prove profitable.
Maybe the R2 would suit their budget better.

I was told to expect my truck in Q1 2025 so I locked in a 3 year Tesla lease in 2022.

Some damn good options in the shop for pre-order voucher holders who are ok with dual motor configuration or want to lease a quad motor.

I wonder what is the lease promotion on Quad motors for pre-order holders.

seems to me it’s best to buy a dual motor or lease a quad.

Anyone have Rivian reach out about this? I cancelled my 3rd protected order a long time ago when the capacity of the max pack was reduced.


What is a preorder price voucher?
We’re simplifying our pricing by moving all customers to today’s pricing, then providing pricing vouchers to our remaining preorder holders to honor their pricing benefits. We’re also launching leasing for preorder holders in eligible locations.*

Who is eligible?

• Pre-March 1, 2022 preorder holders can choose between using a preorder price voucher or the preorder lease promotion (if in leasing-eligible location).
• March 1–May 25, 2022 preorder holders will receive a preorder pricing voucher.

How does the voucher work?

We’ve calculated the average difference between preorder holder pricing and today’s pricing, and are offering a percentage discount to match those savings when you select a vehicle in R1 Shop.

The voucher is redeemable in R1 Shop, and voucher values are automatically applied when purchasing a vehicle.

How does the leasing promotion work?

Pre-March 1, 2022 preorder holders will see a preorder leasing promotion applied when leasing a vehicle selected through R1 Shop (when in a leasing-eligible location).

Do the preorder price vouchers and leasing promotion expire?

Yes, you must take delivery of a Rivian vehicle on or before September 30 to use the voucher or leasing promotion.

Can I apply both the preorder pricing voucher and the leasing promotion to the same vehicle order?

No, you will apply one or the other based on whether you’re purchasing or leasing the vehicle.

• If you purchase a vehicle, the voucher will be applied.
• If you lease a vehicle, the leasing promotion will be applied.

These offers may not be combined with other offers and incentives unless otherwise permitted by Rivian.

*Currently, Rivian offers leasing on select R1T and R1S configurations in the following states:

Thanks for sharing. I'm glad they did this to make things more simple. I was close to getting my configuration but found a nice R1 in the shop back in September. Yes, the car was different than my original config but I'm happy and I don't fret over the colour and wheel difference. If ppl can be a bit flexible than this is a good deal.

I am outraged at my wife! Yet another validation of my plan to move to the country. But, oh no she has to live in the city! Well there you go dear-you just cost me an extra $40k for that Rivian. (j/k).

People are missing the fact that ANYONE with preorder now qualifies for the $7500 tax credit! Just take it as a lease, and immediately buy it out. You don't need a 2022 tax amendment, you get DOUBLE what you would as a purchase, and you get even more discounts taking a dual motor now!

We're happy to opt to dual motor, no Performance or quad needed for the second vehicle, and what was once $75k after half tax credit is now $62k! Might be trading in the brand new Rav4 Prime!

Absolutely right! Lease and then buy it. I have QM with AT so not really getting the 0-60 optimal performance but it's a 7klbs car so I'm not looking for that. DM is absolutely fine.

We'd planned to hold off on Rivian until our promised local service center opens but this voucher (and our never-ending poor experiences with Tesla quality and service) will likely change that. Reading the language about buy versus lease, I'm a bit confused. If we used our voucher to lease an R1 with the intent to possibly purchase at the end, would our residual value be discounted compared to someone not using the voucher? Or would it be the same, and Rivian is just cutting you slack on the payments? Chat support couldn't tell me and Rivian sales has not replied to any of my emails (Always a good sign).
