Rivian offering preorder price difference vouchers for remaining price protected pre-order holders

I agree. There is no excuse for the pre-order holders to pick up a vehicle when one is available. Rivian has done an amazing job holding down the price for this long, even when it was detrimental to them. I applaud them for it.

I was told to expect my truck in Q1 2025 so I locked in a 3 year Tesla lease in 2022.

Yes, some of us do have a valid “excuse”.

This is where I fall, and they're giving me a 3% discount. That's slightly more discount ($2k) than I was getting straight up. This'll be nice if I choose to go with a DM variant.

I suspect they're doing this because they're preparing to stop making the Bosch QM anymore. AND it unlocks people to consider their DM options. I can hardly wait to find out what they're up to with their April shutdown!

I'm certain they are going to lose a portion of them. Not too upset about it since they are losing their asses on all of these vehicles regardless. If they don't sell them to people who were previously price protected then they will have to drop the price for anyone just to clear them out.

I'm a shareholder. We selected our R1S out of the shop because it was close enough to what we wanted so we could get it faster. Either you make a concession on a configuration or you cancel. I cancelled one of mine when Rivian changed their max pack. I had made a concession for the Large pack on my R1T and put another reservation in for the Max pack they said was still coming eventually. Well that didn't really pan out like expected.

I have not seen any language that explicitly says “take delivery by September 30th”.

It says “It’s important to note we plan to sunset preorder pricing on September 30, 2024.”

open for interpretation I guess, but my initial reaction was that this was a date you will need to confirm a configuration by, or forfeit your reservation.

As we’ve seen, delivery dates have been postponed for various reasons (vehicle damage etc)

So my choices seem to be to get a vehicle that I don't want from the shop or to order a custom build price close to over $100,000 where before, I think it was $92,000

You have a third choice: contact customer service / the guides and ask them to find you on that matches your original configuration. Believe it or not, Rivian has some decent human beings working there that are good at their jobs ?

Yes, you must take delivery of a Rivian vehicle on or before September 30 to use the voucher or leasing promotion.

This is pretty cut and dry to me.

Yeah I have no idea why Rivian has inconsistent messaging all the time. These support articles always seem to have somewhat conflicting information compared to email.

So if there is no inventory the 20 percent discount is worthless. I missed the memo a few hours back now login and nothing there to purchase. Will they at least offer the chance to purchase a vehicle similar to what was ordered by Sept 30 and take delivery!! Or is this a way to make the remaining pre-order pricing worthless as there is no inventory prior to the shutdown?

Rivian really needs to step up the communication. Getting my pops a shop order with the end of quarter discount this week has been absolutely BRUTAL

As a Rivian shareholder I'm happy to see this. They can finally clear out the pre price hike holders and move on.

And as a R1 owner who got his truck in 2022 and don’t give a f…k about others who couldn’t, even thought they wanted it. Bravo…

The QM went from 90-92k on May 25th. So, if you got a QM you got a $2k discount vs current pricing.
