You are missing that we aren't all American.
Well, neighbor, can you come south and lease in America? Is there a way to get that $7500 to you? Either way, you get a bigger discount on dual motor now, eh?

Waiting for R2
I am looking forward to the 4th quarter when there is finally a level playing field on R1 price to assess the actual supply/demand for the R1 products.

All this pre-order stuff has really distorted the demand side. And since Rivian has not disclosed pre-order sales numbers vs. post-increase sales by quarter, there's no way to know what the true mix has been. All we've had was average price per vehicle sold, where you have to make a best guess. They have also not disclosed how many pre-order reservations remain on the books as a liability.

So the big question becomes, what will the production and delivery numbers be in Q4.

Middle one?
Yeah, there was a period where they still offered price protection after the increase before the second increase.

Sure, I suppose the dual is cheaper now from a capital perspective. But at a lowly 4.6 seconds 0-60 it'll also take me a lot longer to get everywhere I'm going. And since time is money, it's definitely costing me more in the end. ;)

As a Rivian shareholder I'm happy to see this. They can finally clear out the pre price hike holders and move on.

No, we can take a lease now! That let's us take $7500 cash towards lease. And also just lease if we want. I'm really contemplating this...

Well, as a shareholder, are you confident they have a lineup of people waiting to pay full price? Because if there's not, then once that backlog is cleared out by end of September, sales are going to be pretty brutal. I'd be very curious to know what % of sales are at full price vs pre-hike price currently.

(I'm also a shareholder)

Yep I am confident they can sell what they build. I do sympathize with Canadian order holders since they have had a lot less time than US order holders to get a vehicle. So I would have cut off the US order holders and let Canadian's be able to keep their pre price hikes a bit longer. But is seems like Rivian is doing this mostly due to the plant shutdown to refresh the R1.

Things get tricky once you confirm your reservation and lock in the $1000 non-refundable deposit.

Did you pick something from the shop or just confirm your build preferences?

what configuration did you confirm?
It was a shop build - Limestone, 20" darks, BM.

But as a shareholder, are you really satisfied with "they'll sell what they build" when they are anticipating zero growth for this year in builds/sales? They *should* be building far more than they are, but the reality is there's no point in building vehicles they can't sell right now due to the soft market for vehicles in this pricepoint.

Yeah I'm fine with they'll sell what they build. The R1 wasn't meant to be the volume seller. That's the R2 (and somewhat the R3). So they need to survive until they can ramp up the R2. That's when they need to be having year over year growth in sales.

I'm totally confused by this.
I logged into the shop, and there aren't any vehicles that match my original configuration.

I get a message that I need to " Reset filters to see more options."

So my choices seem to be to get a vehicle that I don't want from the shop or to order a custom build price close to over $100,000 where before, I think it was $92,000

My old configured car which I was asked to confirm the build of about 3 times has now been removed from my account.
In fact, I now seem unable to even build the car I want (I can't order R1s with 22s and underbody protection, where as previously I had that as my saved car. ).

I've intended to order before September, but if I can't get the car, I want, at the price I was originally offered, then I'll get a refund on the deposit.

This may actually cost Rivian customers.

I'm certain they are going to lose a portion of them. Not too upset about it since they are losing their asses on all of these vehicles regardless. If they don't sell them to people who were previously price protected then they will have to drop the price for anyone just to clear them out.
