These photos are fake 100%. I'm not even into photo editing and can tell these have way too many irregularities to be unaltered. look at the size of the person charging in photo one compared to the people in the foreground huge size discrepancy.

Calling BS there. That photos looks to be edited if you look at the back of the white R1S.

While these photos are poor quality, I am not so quick to jump on the fake bandwagon. The first one in particular looks like it was taken through a window with water drops on it (it looks like has recently rained) from a building a decent distance away. It's probably a phone camera and was zoomed all the way. To my eye, the wonkiness of these photos can be reasonably explained by distortion caused by the window, water drops, and digital zoom.

I am skeptical based on all of the R1 models that had camouflage wraps prior to launch. And then this has nothing? Plus a charging port in a completely different spot on the vehicle.
I agree. What manufacturer would move the charging port on a new generation of a vehicle? That seems like the biggest "I'm a fake" flag.

Great catch!

What camera would someone even use to get a poor quality photo like that? A crappy cell phone would still look better without all the artifacts.

I agree it looks AI generated or faked. It's always "convenient" when spy shots look like they are taken with a hidden CIA camera from the 1950s.

Rivian R1T R1S Is this the R2 spotted in the wild? 1708089002858

You think this could explain the fact that the person near the charger is much larger than the two people that are a good 30' closer to the camera. I understand your point that a cell phone picture can have lots of irregularities and not be a spoof but this has many anomalies that don't pass my BS test.

I thought it was an R1 refesh but then noticed the rear window on the white looks smaller than the one on the green. So either they've changed the dimensions on the R1 (no way), or this is the R2. If it's the R2 it's bigger than I expected which makes me think it's fake

Yes, I do think that at a long distance and angle you could see things that appear "off" but are reasonable, like the people. Photos being 2D (and especially poor quality ones) lose or distort some of the information your brain uses to establish things like size and distance.

I'm not saying with 100% certainty that these are real, only that I do not see anything so glaring in them that other people seem to in order to declare them 100% fake. All of the things that look off can be reasonably explained by "in camera" effects.

Why did they have to use the Bigfoot Sighting filter?

The photo seems consistent with the little we know about the R2. However, it would be really weird to move the charge port to the rear right because it would be more inconvenient for the driver and incompatible with V3 supercharger layouts.

Sure, a lot of what I have read has come from the internet, people who know people at Rivian, etc.
This is not going to be a refreshed R1. There is no way that they are making significant body changes to the R1 for the refresh--any updates we see are going to be related to reducing costs and tweaks to existing features (i.e. the ADAS camera configuration).

Not sure they are completely fake, definitely could be a phone camera from very far away with one of those AI post-processors that fills in missing details.

I think this is the real deal guys. Definitely didn’t expect it to look exactly like a “Mini R1” but definitely seems to be.

I’m leaning towards probably fake for several reasons. But first off, regarding the quality, It seems from the angle and perspective that these pictures were taken from a distance and definitely at a higher elevation. It could be through a building window or a cheap drone camera, so the quality could be explained.

There are some things on the white vehicle that make me think this has been P shopped. As mentioned, the rear just looks weird, and it’s hard to see how all of that could be due to artifacts. Also, I question the front end. The hood looks totally flat which is unlikely. The top of the headlights appear to be at the very top of the front end where the hood folds back 90 degrees horizontal. I guess it’s possible to build it that way, but it just seems to me they would not design it that way due to adding manufacturing cost and complexity. Dunno, could be legit, but it just feels wrong….

I think it's the refreshed R1S, not the R2. I know some are convinced Rivian isn't going to update the R1 platform but the design is 5+ years old since they first showed it. I'm sure they've learned a lot since then.

As to why the charging port is in the back, if they switched to 800v, it would be smart to go ahead and rearrange the cabling so it doesn't have to go all the way to the front.

There are some minor improvements to the headlight design and getting rid of the chrome trim has to be on the list.

Maybe they use the R2 reveal to show updates to the R1T as well? Seems a tad too early in the year, but maybe they were sandbagging.

It could also be fake. It could also be R2 and the size is hard to compare given the distortion. R2 will either look like this or more subaru-ish.
