Rivian has a great policy team, and are all over this, in conjunction with other concerned parties in the industry. The question I would add to the list is “what federal legislative/ lobbying actions is Rivian and it’s primary investors taking in order to preserve the federal tax credit for EVs?”
There are spies amongst us! Good for you Rivian for participating and getting a sense of what's being discussed, how were feeling and what you can glean to improve on.Alright all...thank you for the participation and comments...this all really helps.
I believe that all of this can really be whittled down to one common theme; transparency. Transparency in the information that they do have to share, in the information that they dont have finalized quite yet, and maybe most important, transparency in a timeline when we can all expect information that doesnt involve the word "s00n".
My lunch is set for Monday afternoon and while I cannot commit to finding out the EPA numbers or the order that colors will be produced I can commit that I will communicate the passion (and at times frustration) of their rabid fan base/supporters.
I can also commit that people at Rivian are keeping tabs of forums like this one as this post was mentioned in his confirmation of our lunch.
My hope is to help Rivian understand what it's like from a consumer's view while also understanding/respecting that there is a method to the madness on the cadence and quality of information being passed along from their side.
Recap coming Monday afternoon...
Thanks. That would be my assumption as well. Just looking for some specifics they would like to point too.Rivian has a great policy team, and are all over this, in conjunction with other concerned parties in the industry.

Greg and KW,I’d focus on building a relationship which will open the door to an ongoing dialogue. So I would approach it like @DuckTruck did - ask him about himself. Where’s he from. His family. What did he do before Rivian. How did he end up at Rivian. What’s his favorite thing about it. What’s been his biggest challenge there. Personally, if I were in your shoes I’d define success for this meeting as coming away with a relationship and great contact, not by how much information you can extract.
Lack of 3rd row width, for one.Why not a seat configuration with captain chairs in the 2nd row + 3 seats in the 3rd row? As a father of 3 with friends this might be a deal killer. Thank you
Those would be good questions to have answers to. I will buy which ever tires give me the longer range. And if the underbody protection improves aero and range, I might consider that as well. No one ever complains their EV has TOO much range.Even if they don't give us an exact EPA number, I'd love to get a percentage difference between the wheels, R1T vs R1S, max vs large pack and underbody protection vs none.
Thanks for the update! Look forward to learning more.Had the pleasure to sit down with Rivian today and discuss lots of the topics that have come up on this post and on the forum overall.
First and foremost, this group is being heard and they are actively looking to address a large number of the open questions posted here. The main point that I tried to emphasize is the need/desire for more transparency and clarity. It's okay if they either do not have the final info to share on a particular topic or if they are just not ready to make their answer "official". But having some sort of view into when that will come is what is most desired, as what causes most of the debates here is due to lack of visibility which leads to assumptions being made. I believe this was heard loud and clear.
I was very impressed with the homework the team has done between monitoring the boards, monitoring Customer Service chat sessions, and documenting Guide conversations where those have started. This team gets a huge A+ when it comes to attention to details...and if they are taking this much effort on their customers I cannot wait to see the finished product when it rolls off the assembly lines.
More to come, but wanted to give you all a quick update.
