You are largely correct but people who buy a $100k vehicle will demand that certain issues get fixed such as drain or software issues that brick components. This article hasn't aged as well as people have hoped but they are getting there and new features are a super gift.

I am absolutely not disagreeing with you (we are saying the same thing, I think). If I were a victim of my vehicle not behaving as I'd expected (as a condition it was sold to me as), I'd have similar heartburn, and would expect the manufacturer to make me whole.

If you re-read the spirit of my post, it had nothing to do with 'fixes' and everything to do with "why can't I have *these* features now?"

Insofar as, even with 'older' vehicles, there were still TSBs and software updates that might be performed by the dealership to correct ECU 'bugs' and nags in the systems when you took your car in for maintenance, that's actually a relatively established practice by the big automakers.

The Model A came in one color, folks! Come on! You're lucky they paint them at all. Don't be so entitled!

That argument may have worked in the 9th century Viking economy, but in a thriving market, customers absolutely are "entitled" to express preferences. They also are entitled to love a car while hoping to see improvements in certain systems that are lagging behind others. I doubt Rivian views customer feedback through such a narrow lens.
There's absolutely a difference between 'expressing preferences' and complaining out loud like an entitled toddler who doesn't want to eat their vegetables and wants dessert for dinner.

Hell, I would love to have Android Auto. I am expressing a desire. But I'm not going to lambast Rivian for not giving me something they never promised, on my personal timeline.

Just my .02. Agree or disagree. To your point, I could just ignore the complainers altogether and move along. And I shall :)

Bugs fixed, features added, and coming in at a good rate. What could be better?

The ride related updates are huge to me. Soft is getting more so (improved isolation). Call it pick up the grandparents from the airport mode. Firm is getting more sporty (more connected) which is great.

I honestly didn't see anyone going ad hominem or lambasting Rivian in this thread. Maybe I missed it. Anyway, perhaps a free hugs update will be helpful after all!

Actually, that one is pretty compelling to me as well. The current soft AP ride floats around a bit too much for my tastes, but stiff can be a bit much for my passengers. Additional customization will be nice to explore.

Maybe an R1S vs. R1T difference? I find the soft ride to be very good on my T, and my OTRs (other than Rivian vehicles) have very firm rides. Hopefully, this update will improve both T and S!

You aren't missing out. I've never used mine on the T. It won't stop of thief. I originally thought if cut it would set the alarm off...not the case. Just a dumb too skinny cable. Much easier to use the builtin heavy chain lock on my rockymounts rack
Ah, then....

I want sounds to play from outside speakers to sound like a hellcat whine when I am on the juice, and a blow off valve when I lift. Then I can mess with my daughter and her WRX in a whole new way. That and make people wonder how I have a blown and turbo charged EV :like:

I too am happy we are getting both bug fixes and new refinements regularly. As a former Tesla user, I felt many of their software enhancements had no value to US (eg we never used any of the video streaming/gaming stuff), sounded great but implementation wasn’t good (noise cancellation -> noise reduction -> noise tone changing and auto pilot but with phantom braking), sub optimally implemented (turn signal camera on main display instead of model S/x instrument display like Lucid).

Overall I am happy with the progress and excited for the future.

I’m surprised the simple things like turn signal cameras hasn’t been done yet
I have done a lot of project work over the years which involves discussion with people who don’t know the constraints and/or don’t know the background. The most frustrating phrase I heard, repeated many times, was, “All you have to do is…” This was almost always followed by something which was prohibited or which was discussed and deemed unworkable.

If something appears simple or straightforward but it isn’t getting done it is likely that the people who are working on it are facing one or more issues we don’t know about. Rivian said they’re working on this feature so I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that it simply isn’t Rivian trying to annoy us owners by pushing it back for no logical reason.

People forget that their vehicle software isn't viewed in a vacuum. Rivian has federal safety standards they have to comply with, and EPA rules to maintain compliance there as well.

Tesla is often looked at as the "golden standard" for updates, but their engineers seem to do more to push the boundaries, to put things nicely. Just look at all of the recent NHTSA recalls that Tesla owners have just been saying "it's just a software update" about, ignoring that Tesla created those safety problems in the first place by not following the rules.

Rivian's engineers seem to introduce these updates by first asking how they can do it while maintaining compliance under the standards.

Isn’t this thread about the new update? Why not post other comments in the wish list thread? I would like to see a screenshot of the replacement for the vehicle screen. This sounds like a big improvement for quick access.

  • Fixed a rare issue that increased overnight range loss when Proximity Locking was set to Lock Only at home, the vehicle was at home, and the phone was within Bluetooth range of the vehicle.
Have definitely noticed this since 2023.50, about 1% overnight.

I will be the first to comment:

- “I’m disappointed that this update doesn’t have what I want now.”

- “Just another minor update.”

What else did I miss? ?
"Update made crappy audio even worse. I wish they kept the Meridian logo. It would have made a world of difference."
