So interesting that two very different groups of people (geographically and socioeconomically) who likely have very little in common both mobilized NIMBY campaigns against Rivian.

Human kind can all come together as long as it's NIMBY.

Having listend to RJ talk about how the company managed to design the R1 while they went dark on the How I built this podcast seem to be their SOP.

Remember half of this forum was fully convinced that the software and interior of the vehicles simply didn't exist until test drives started, because we hadn't seen any details or leaks more or less since Long Way Up. Say what you will about comms strategy, RJ runs a tight ship.

Ah the good ol' days when you could read every new post on the entire forum with eager anticipation that someone would have sussed out some new juicy tidbit.

New bits, huh? Forgot the package name coming (was unique name starts with P), but simpler package is coming soon. Cameras in front arch molding moved to mirrors, so new mirrors. This was for cleaner package and no camera replacement if you destroyed arch molding. No camp speaker, wood is going away in favor of new materials. Some other items designed to reduce cost and quicken production. Work in progress on getting more cameras integrated into the Driver+ system as not all are currently used. No word if front camera in windshield can be used for better front gear guard quality. Still have not heard about heat pump progress but out of spec video on older and new Tesla was interesting, would have put my money on resistive heater winning, and lost as usual.

Forgot, electrochromic roof from original show car will be a thing in new revisions, probably a pay options. No word on solid roof.

Yes it is crazy, Laguna Beach residents fought tooth and nail to block Rivian redoing that building. Apparently the residents felt that a dilapidated empty building was much better for the area.

Older Laguna Beach residents are a bunch of "clutch my pearls" turds. I can safely say that as being a resident of the city myself. The majority of downtown is delapidated due to their antiquated views on progress. Too bad, it could be a spectacular city.

yes. Per the local “Nextdoor” website. The city received hundreds of letters asking for the city to decline the event, so Rivian canceled. What a slap in the face to Rivian. Spent ~$20M restoring a dilapidated historic building at the center of Laguna Beach only for residence to complain. Apparently many residents are complaining Rivian was even allowed to develop the property to begin with. Nuts.

Now you know that California is a laughing stock of the country. I can't wait to leave this God-forsaken state.

What was the harm at having an event there?. It probably would have brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars possibly in people coming...but, they lost out. Pathetic..... pathetic.

If I was Rivian....pack up the shop and move to Reno or Arizona......business friendly.

Rivian, launch R2 in Seattle... i think we have less of those.... i think. ?‍

I really need this and I hope it it were to be R2, more products in gear shop to have an excuse for my shopping addiction.

I'm sure RJ wanted it there since he lives there but most cities don't allow public spaces for this kind of use. It sets a bad precedent. You can't set up an easy-up in Laguna without the cops showing up.
