Maxxed at 250 on a v3 or any other 400v charger that has that kind of amp output. But 250kw for a long time due to less heat is still a faster charge than what a 400v architecture can do

78kw charging speed at 69% SoC isn’t impressive. Let’s wait for real world charging tests versus becoming enamored with theoreticals

But we don't know what it is plugged into so does that tell us much? Other than that they definitely watched it tick past 67%, 68%, 69...SCREENSHOT TIME!

It seems that after releasing prices and other characteristics of CT, Rivian stock moved up and Tesla's stock slightly down.

We don’t really know the constraints in most DCFC chains on the vehicles (R1T is pack thermals).

800v does mean you can use lighter gauge wiring from the port to the battery pack, but is completely independent of the pack itself. The cells aren’t 800v, and pack design plus cell specifications determine how many kW and for how long.

If the wiring in the vehicle and wiring in the charger cable are the limiting factors, then going to 800v helps.

From a practical perspective, this does appear to be the case for charging cables, as the longer liquid cooled Supercharger V4 cables are back closer to V2 rather than being as slim as V3 cables. V3/4 rated at 650A IIRC, so if you go higher, say to 1000A so you could guarantee 350kW on a typical Tesla pack (accounting for lower voltage at lower SOC), the cables would likely become unwieldy or very expensive to produce.

Just stating this because I’m getting annoyed that most people assume “just changing to 800v” automatically means the battery pack will accept more kW.
What do you mean, nope? It can do 250kw on a 400v charger(duh so can a model y, 3 ,x ,s) and faster on a v4, 350 max. However what it can do and what it will do are 2 different things.

I agree with OP on this post. The CT is an engineering marvel that most people won't appreciate due to its looks and their feeling for Elon himself. I'll never buy one strictly due to its size and shape but what it has and can do for its price is amazing.

What specifically about it is an “engineering marvel”?

Why does it have 30% less range for 30% much more pricing than was promoted originally?

Unless of course you want to spring for a $16,000 “range extender” that needs to be permanently installed in the bed, which also happens to be where your spare tire needs to sit :CWL: Bye bye cargo space…

Why did it go from bragging about having steel balls thrown at the windows to a softball being barely thrown at it ?

It was promoted as being able to cross “seas that aren’t too choppy”. Where was that yesterday?

Can it actually off road on the types of trails other trucks tackle? Instead of videos of it towing a Porsche 911 while “racing” the slowest 911 or a stupid tractor pull competition maybe show people something real?

You don’t know anything about crash ratings or real world range or charging info. So what exactly makes it a “marvel”? It’s entirely underwhelming compared to what was promised.

I’m glad there are more options for EV buyers, but this belief by Tesla fans that everything Elon does is years ahead of everyone else is just laughable at this point. He promised one thing and is delivering something (4 years later) not even close to it. It’s another EV truck. Nothing about it is revolutionary other than how weird it looks.

As an engineer, I would say the Gigapress frame casting is an engineering marvel. The rest of the CT? There are zero engineering marvels. Name one - ALL of this has been done in other vehicles in the past, including the "engineering marvel" know as the giant windshield wiper. Mercedes, bus and truck companies have been doing single/large wipers the right way for years.

Tesla's are notoriously slow past 50-60%. They have high peaks down low, but tend to taper relatively fast. They aren't the best in the business for charging times, so I remain very skeptical the Cybertruck is any different.

Also the only vehicle with the 4680 battery today is the Model Y built in Austin. Go look at Brandon Flash's videos on Youtube. It is terrible at charging. Even worse than the standard Model Y with 2170 cells.

Codog you are justplain wrong on this one. The AWD version is actually 60% more expensive than the original price (49,900 to 79,900) I have a minute 1 reservation for the CT and was really hoping for a lot more than what is being delivered. I also have an April 2019 reservation for an R1T that still hasn’t been delivered because I live in Louisiana so I have many complaints about both companies right now. However being in a position of a pre march price for the Rivian and the disappointment about price and features of the CT I think the Rivian is going to end up in my driveway. I admit, I am a bit of a Tesla fan (currently driving a model 3) but I think the criticisms are fair this time.

Thank you for the correction. I'm sorry it wasn't what you were hoping for. I think everyone can understand that prices go up over 4 years, but Tesla could have handled this better for sure. As you said, it would have been nice if the truck was announced with specs and features that made it feel like the increase was justified.

As for Rivian, some who live too far from service centers have started receiving this email giving them the option to take delivery. I hope you get one so you can decide for yourself!
