IMO, front collision at 35 mph looks really bad. Look at that whiplash, and the kid in the back? ? Are there airbags in the rear?

Perhaps pedestrian safety is an afterthought in a truck like this, but this looks straight out flying shards of steel coming at the pedestrian

Here’s R1T’s drivers overlap from IIHS as comparison:

I’d like to see the data but seems to be a very small crumple zone. Compare that to the Rivian that was hit head on in Colorado where the guy walked away, looks like the entire section on the R1S collapsed absorbing the impact.

I’m no physicist but it seems to me the more rigid the vehicle, the more the passengers get tossed around like Yahtzee dice.

That being said I don’t know enough about crash tests to know if it’s “good enough”??‍♂

Not sure Musk does either, I heard he said something yesterday about the CT winning in a crash but really the only ones winning are the people who walk away.

Yeah the king of pretending to understand complicated stuff has spoken. ?

I'd wait for the test results from the NHTSA.

It’s meaningless until you get the numbers. All I know is my State Farm bill for my T is $82.40/ month. My agent said there was quite a discount due to safety.

Here’s a video that compares the Cybertruck v F150 Lightning in the same full frontal crash.

F150 driver experiences much less forward whiplash. Side by side comparison toward the end of the clip

Neither look great but the passenger moves forward much sooner in the Tesla than the Ford. I’d really like to see a full front on the Rivian, the only ones I ever found were front offsets.

Should be safe as long as they don't crash into another Cybertruck or immovable objects. Any other crash and the vehicle they hit will have properly engineered crumple zones, and you really only need one.

Bad.

I'd much rather my vehicle crumple and require more repair than the vehicle pass that energy on to me, causing me whiplash or worse.

I also worry about the side impact - it dents the doors enough that they may not be able to open - but doesn't shatter the side windows. That may *SEEM* good, but it means if there is a problem that knocks the occupants unconscious, rescuers can't easily get the occupants out!

That is a marked difference. The occupants move sooner and you can clearly see the angle the people bend backwards in the cybertruck to a much greater degree when colliding with the airbag showing much greater force on the people.

Safety wasn't something I thought much about when purchasing my vehicle but after being confronted with the reality of it now having the safer vehicle is important.
