. It would have been better to say:
“We expect to have a solution figured out by tomorrow morning and will update you in the morning”
“As shared earlier today, we’ve identified an issue with our recent software update 2023.42.0 that impacts your vehicle’s infotainment system. We have a solution and are coordinating how we'll roll it out to impacted owners. You can expect an update from us tomorrow morning with next steps.”

They say they are coordinating how they will roll it out. It’s basically the same as saying that they are still working on the complete solution and will roll it out tomorrow. It’s so close to your self proclaimed “better” response it makes me laugh. ?

What I’ve learned in this thread.
Don’t apply an update while on a trip or going on one. Should be obvious.
Some don’t know what bricked means. If you can drive the truck it’s not bricked.
And some have zero patience or understanding of mistakes at all.
And some of "us" should sell our Rivian and never look back.

We should start a pool...

I'm going with it is an OTA, but first we must talk to a csr on the phone where they talk us through the one time code to put the Rivian into engineering mode and do something there so it will review and install the update
Cheat code on the left steering wheel buttons will start the install of the new release - UUDDLRLR

Some of us have driven "bricked" cars for most of our lives! :)

In the 90s we owned a bricked car - a Volvo 740 - also affectionately called the “Swedish Brick” by Volvo enthusiasts due to their boxy shape.

I'm thinking they can't fix this remotely. Two possibilities exist. 1. You have to press the screen to update the vehicle and they will badger you to no end to do it. This is not possible because rivian chopped the head off the horse. 2. They can push and apply updates without your consent. Why would we ever have to press the screen then and we all have the illusion of control? They can brick the car whenever they want and you own a paperweight.

I thought I read somewhere the infotainment runs android.

Well, at least Rivian Infotainmentgate has given us a feel for the Fisker Ocean ownership experience (apologies to Ocean owners. I am a reservation holder with an invitation to order but just can’t pull the trigger).

You miss the point, which is the “we have.” If you ”have” it, tell us what it is. Because that solution could be pretty painful or could be painless. It’s the deference between someone having a fully operational truck tomorrow via OTA or days or weeks down the road getting it to a service center.

It’s just ridiculous to tell your customers you have information they want and need, but you are going to withhold it until tomorrow. Either give them the info or don’t.

Based on some of the responses in this thread, it looks like the vehicle can still communicate with the app for several functions.

Why would we not expect to be able to start the updated software to startable (is that a word) from the app?

Or at least most of them.

Is there a voting option tied to this thread to see truly the percentage of who is/is not having issues w the update here?

This thread clearly demonstrates how inferior the Rivian vehicles are to the VW ID.4.

I haven’t had a single botched-up OTA software update in my ID.4. In fact, I haven’t had a single OTA update yet.

You assume wrong. Auto wipers leads to the "courtesy wipe" every time you put it in drive which I can't stand. So mine stay off until it actually rains.
Same! They need to do away with the courtesy wipe.

I had a single update on my ID4 in a 2 year period. That update bricked it for about 6 weeks.

LOL, The ID.4 is a heaping pile of dog shit. I had one for a month. It was the worst EV, and vehicle perhaps, I've ever owned.
