First of all, I think Costco is the best place to buy tires. Unbeatable customer service and thousands of locations.
That said, I ordered a set of Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 tires, 275/60/20 to go on my Flow forged 8 spoke Bronze wheels from EV Sportline.
These tires have a height of 33" similar to my stock 21"s with Pirelli "road" tire. Looking at most Rivian approved sizes are all around 33 to 33.5 inches tall.
The wheels arrived first, so all I had to do was wait for Cosco, which went very fast, they got the tires within a day or so.
Off to Costco I go. Get to the tire & wheel center and the guy tells me that they won't use my TPMS sensors that I bought with the wheels. Certified Rivian OEM part.
No, they have strict policies and I can only get their TPMS unit. I ask for a manager, lot's of back and forth, to no avail.
Pissed off, I cancelled the sale of the tires on the spot. Hasty decision.
Later the same day, after some thought, I realized that I wanted to stay with Costco, EV Sportline agreed to let me return their TPMS units they sent me. $350.
So back to Costco I go. Talked to a different guy who seemed much more helpful. So I tell him the story, and I told him I could return my TPMS's and I'll just buy the ones from Costco, and I proceeded and paid for the same tires I had just returned earlier. So, finally John, asks me what vehicle this is going on. I told him a Rivian R1T 2022 Launch Edition. He says the Costco TPMS's are only about $50 ea.
As he's looking up on his computer, he says, they don't have TPMS systems available from their supplier for the Rivian! So, I cannot install my tires?
Now what, I just bought these tires again. John says he'll call me back after he spoke to his boss. His boss was off for several days and might only be back next week! Today is Thursday. So here I am hanging? Do I just wait, and hope John doesn't get too busy and forgets about me?
Decisions, decisions. Driving home from dinner, 7:30ish, and who calls, It's John from Costco!
He tells me that the tires I bought only had a load rating of 115, and it need to be 116 at least.
Now what? John tells me the actual size I need, is 275/65/20, and that they were almost $100 more per tire!
So I thank him saying I'll stop by tomorrow after I've done some research. Come to find, the tire they recommended had a height of 34.1 inches!
According to my GPS Dashcam, my speedo is off by a little over 1 mph too fast. When I 'm doing 80, my GPS says I'm doing 78 mph. So, it seems that 33.5 inches is about the best size.
Well now what, I don't want to pay the extra $100 per tire and I am fine with that load rating. Over exaggerated if you ask me, but wtf.
I am thinking of going somewhere else. Buy the tires I really want and have a mom n pop store install them for me.
What would you do?

115 h seems fine to me 5358 per axle, worst case scenario even on a 40/60 weight balance with an R1S GVWR of just under 8600 lbs an axle does not exceed 5160 lbs.

I would buy the tires I want and take them to another shop to mount and balance them.

I tried 2 discount tires and a Costco and non would install tires below the oem weight ratings...

Next time I'm going to tell them it's for a ram 1500 and just have them Mount the tires

The tire place I went would install whatever I wanted even if it went against their recommendation. You sign a thing saying it's your problem and that's the end of it. With that said I'm going to get Michelin defenders with a 119 rating so it's a moot point for me personally.

I stopped using tires from Costco after I got a set of four that started dry rotting about a year after purchase, but that was about 15 years ago. After that, I decided their "great" prices weren't worth it. Tires are the only part of the vehicle that touch the road.

At the end of the day, if one tire place is giving you the run around, why aren't you shopping somewhere else? Just how good do you think that original deal is?

Always, always check date codes when buying tires. Fresh is best. Reject anything more than a year old. You simply don’t know how they’ve been stored.

Also Costco can be a pain in the ass for buying tires - they generally will not install anything other than what’s on your door jamb, unless its loose wheels/tires And they can’t tell what it’s for ?

Exactly! Just take them the wheels and tell them it's going on a 4runner or something.

No big deal to put them on. Like changing a flat, 4x.

Revos are great tires. I had several sets of duelers and they were good on the road for an AT and great off road. Lasted a long time.

Pirelli discontinued the 115 and the newer tires are 116. I spoke to them last week to get replacement 115h tires from Discount Tire and they couldn't so I called Pirelli to figure out why. 4210000 is there new Pirelli part number.

I wonder where Costco is getting the 116 rating as a requirement or if it is just their policy to only replace tires on the vehicle with same or greater rating. I wonder if you went in with 117 tires if they would only replace with that or higher.

Going by the door jamb sticker 115 has plenty of buffer for the R1S and R1T. You could even make a case for 114 having enough buffer with 5200 lbs per axle and 60% of GVWR being 5160 pounds at least on the R1S.

note:
I bring them my wheels twice a year for tire swap and no problem on my GT2RS the road force balance is the best .

They allow me to remove and install wheels as these are Centerlock and the don’t have the 5500.00 torque Gun.

Bring it to a mom and pop type of tire shops. They will do it for you. Forget discount tires and Costco. They are by the book.
