If you drive in any gravel this is 100% normal for any brand of truck running boards or rock sliders, especially with all terrain tires. All the gravel, sand and debris you kick up is sand blasting the paint off.

@EV Sportline , can you help comment on what the warranty is for your rock sliders?
If you need to buy rock sliders you don’t need to worry a warranty for rust. They will get scraped, dinged and gouged and you will have to constantly touch up if you want to avoid most rust.

When will your aluminum alloy, cad plated, cast magnesium rock sliders be shipping and where can they be ordered? Asking for a friend.
Thanks for posting what many must have been wondering! ?

Yes, but better that than my rocker panels!

Absolutely. That’s why I always have mud flaps and running boards or rock sliders in my trucks. A $10 can of black bed liner spray twice a year is cheap compared to the truck's paint.

I was not aware of the material was steel
I would use 6061 or 7075 alloy

Always cad plate a casting to seal the casting before paint or powder coating.

There are two types of gear
Steel tubing
Cast magnesium
For reference
Quality starts with material used to mfg not the cost of material.
Dude, what on earth are you going on about?

Aluminum would be highly inappropriate for these applications, *ESPECIALLY* with the weight of these trucks. Furthermore, aluminum STILL OXIDIZES (it ESPECIALLY oxidizes, the moment you scratch it). Anodizing is actually an intentional oxidation layer added via electrolysis using an anode. But that's not even the point.

Why are you talking about Casting? None of these are cast components...? It's DOM steel pipe. And likely extruded plate.

And magnesium alloys like to go explodey: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1955_Le_Mans_disaster
While it's possible some mag-aluminum alloys can be built relatively safely, they're ultra-specialized and almost exclusively used in racing applications, where they're replaced often due to risks (notwithstanding super expensive).

If there was a significantly better (and affordable) way to make these things, there would be outfits making them with the better methods and raking in the Ca$h...!

LOL WAT

I ordered the rock sliders in January and STILL have not received them. There is no way you are getting them in September...unless they mean September 2024.
When I ordered, this part here still said ETA September:
Rivian R1T R1S EV Sportline Running Boards Rusting after 2 Months 1693851528514

Unfortunately, my invoice doesn't say what the expected ship date is/was as of that time. AND in fairness, it didn't say WHEN in September (so it could be Sept 30 for all I know)

That said, if you ordered in January and STILL haven't received them, I'd probably follow-up with @EV Sportline ... something tells me your order got lost, because these haven't (at least as far as when I've been looking at them) been predicting more than 2 months out...

Or, OR, hear me out...they are lying to you and you will be in a similar situation to mine (I really hope not). I have followed up with them MULTIPLE times and keep getting told "next month".

@EV Sportline , maybe YOU can help me out? Order number: #3162
Interesting.
This is the first I'm hearing of never-ending delays from EV Sportline on the rock sliders. You'd think I'd have seen it in more places.

I'd gotten my jack pucks from them and am still on the fence about a set of their wheels. Guess we'll see how this plays out!

Same here February Order number #3330 requested cancellation in May which they talked me out of for 10% refund. Tired of waiting and I have requested cancellation again and want the rest of my $$ refunded.

This is the exact same as me. My wife was pregnant up until Friday when we had our first born. We ordered earlier in the year anticipating how hard it would be for her to get in the car. I was told June. Which came and went. Then late in the month told July. Then August. Last month I was told September.

since July it’s been getting harder and harder for my wife to get in the car. I’ve started carrying a step stool.
Now the baby has arrived before the sliders. Last I heard was September. I have no faith I’ll see them this month.

in my emails I’ve heard everything from “next week” to “next month”. “Finalizing production” “shipping soon” etc.

Incredibly disappointing. Hope they end up being worth the wait but this is truly ridiculous.

Edit-saw someone say they offered them 10% refund for the delay. They did not offer me any such thing. And yes, I explained we ordered for my pregnant wife.

You are not getting a set of sliders in Sept if you just ordered recently. LOL

I suggest someone start a forum-wide PSA about the ... reliability of EV Sportline if this is the case. I was blissfully unaware of any ongoing issues, especially as @EV Sportline seems pretty active around these parts.

Although it's concerning that EV Sportline seems responsive...generally...but hasn't had anything to say in these regards... (though it was just Labor Day weekend, so hopefully they were just out enjoying the adventurous outdoors with their families).

We replied immediately, made it clear if there was a rust issue it would be warranted. We found the reddit post and replied there as well. I also reached out to the OP and thanked them for mentioning it. I am not sure if you missed all this?
