I ordered EV Sportline Rock Sliders a few weeks ago with a September estimated delivery. When I was looking, they were the only ones who have advertised zinc coating prior to powdercoating.

And for the guy suggesting anodizing prior to coating. These are steel. You anodize aluminum. You want to sound smart, you should've suggested galvanizing. No one is currently (as far as I'm aware) offering galvanizing prior to powder, or they would've had my money.

But rest assured ladies and jellyspoons--from a metallurgical perspective, if you scrape through coatings, you will rust (I understand and recognize the images previously posted here didn't show coating damage; this is conversational). Even stain*less* steel is just that stainless. Not stain proof. Stainless steel in the right environments, especially with surface damage will eventually begin to corrode.

BUT, well coated steels will last the longest, for sure.

I was going to post a similar reply (smile)... You don't "anodize" steel... ? And landing gear on airplanes are not made from steel, but rather a high-strength alloy....

I came across this photo on reddit from a guy that has had his EV Sportline running boards for just two months and they are rusting. Has anyone else had this issue? This looks really bad.

"I had the EV Sportline running boards for about 2 mos now and just noticed today, it started to show rust. Anyone else notice this? I just reached out to them and waiting on a response.

The truck is parked on the driveway, rarely in the garage, as the garage is too small."

Thanks for the info. I was looking at these, but I live near the beach in FL, they would have rusted away in 6 months. I will have to find aluminum running boards. They have held up on a RAM truck and Durango SUV.

We'll have the R1S ready to ship within a week or two and the R1T will be ready in about 4 weeks.
I just received my DCE sliders for our R1S. It took 3.5 weeks total time from the order date to delivery. It took me about 90 minutes to install them by myself. Super easy install and the product is really nice.

It’s best to anodize black or silver cad plating before powder coat in epoxy

when I do aircraft landing gear or wheels , I do a chem strip and then silver cad plate before the powder coat or epoxy paint.

You get what you pay for

I bet it’s cheap China flash coating

Yes JEBINC, this is another great reminder that the Internet / forums are what they are...No shortage of experts ? !

BTW we have no emails inbound from anyone claiming a rust issue, so who knows what's up with that. I have posted on Reddit as well, asking the customer to kindly contact us and we'll remedy his situation, whatever the case may be.

Regardless, we 100% stand behind our products - always. If an issue pops up, just contact us and we'll make it right!

I was not aware of the material was steel
I would use 6061 or 7075 alloy

Always cad plate a casting to seal the casting before paint or powder coating.

There are two types of gear
Steel tubing
Cast magnesium
For reference
Quality starts with material used to mfg not the cost of material.

For all we know, it could be a photoshopped photo and malicious post from a competitor, given no contact! Sometimes, people just suck! ?

LOL ok. Well, as was stated above, it IS a holiday weekend - I'll be reaching out tues via email once I can get more/better pics as I'm not with the vehicle at the moment. I have no doubt it'll be remedied, just disappointed it happened so quickly. I do believe this issue is not widespread, and overall the fit/finish is fantastic. Would not hesitate to purchase again!

@EV Sportline , can you help comment on what the warranty is for your rock sliders?
My assumption... first time your rock sliders are drug across a rock there is NO more warranty. If you never intend to wheel your Rivian, then folks should be buying the steps and not the sliders.

Agreed. Probably a bad set or two that slipped through as they rapidly ramped up production to meet pre-order demand.
Your definition of “rapidly” is potentially overly generous. Sounds like some folks have been waiting 10 months or so. In my experience, EVSportline has been evasive RE: delivery timelines.

In my experience - March order, June delivery for R1S runnings boards - EVSportline was communicative but imprecise until they had their product "done". Worked for me - very happy after 3 months.

When will your aluminum alloy, cad plated, cast magnesium rock sliders be shipping and where can they be ordered? Asking for a friend.

They had eight versions to tool up for and produce (RBs for T and S plus sliders for T and S). And two (now three) tread patterns for each. There were reported “startup” issues and redesigns on most all models, which added to the delay. And, they released each model sequentially, not concurrently. If you were an early R1S triple slot slider preorder, you waited the longest. If an R1T square pattern RB pre order, you waited the least. But of course, we all know the wait was longer than we all expected, when ordering, due to the above and sheer number of preorders taken.

Sorry for not clearly defining, “rapidly” for you earlier.
