The EV Sportline warranty page does not mention the sliders / running boards. I wonder if the rust is covered and for how long.

Really looks bad with that rust
@EV Sportline how widespread is this problem? Is this the quality I can expect after waiting so long?
I want to cancel my order # 3330

DCE also makes rock sliders for Rivian, but they are more pricey and I can’t find any warranty info on their site either.

I just ordered the DCE sliders for both the R1S and R1T. I have a contact there now. I’ll ask about the warranty.

FWIW - This is what I was told on 8/31/2023:

We'll have the R1S ready to ship within a week or two and the R1T will be ready in about 4 weeks.

Yikes, if this is a widespread issue and not isolated to a certain batch, this isn’t good. Hopefully it will be made right.

Those that have surface rust, how are the brackets holding up underneath?

It’s best to anodize black or silver cad plating before powder coat in epoxy

when I do aircraft landing gear or wheels , I do a chem strip and then silver cad plate before the powder coat or epoxy paint.

You get what you pay for

I bet it’s cheap China flash coating

I think I read these are 100% made in the US, nothing from China.

I’ve been riding around with one the original prototype sets for 9 months and no rust in Georgia. I can attest that they are not using a cheap Chinese coating as they are made in the USA.?? You probably just got a bad set, I’m certain they’ll make it right.
Agreed. Probably a bad set or two that slipped through as they rapidly ramped up production to meet pre-order demand.

I've been planning to add the running boards, as the step in is tough on my 5'2" wife. Having moved to the R1T from one of the most accessorizable vehicles on the planet, Jeep Gladiator, where I had a problem with rusting aftermarket running boards. I was told don't let snow or ice build up on them. I live in Vermont, in a town with only two paved roads. Snow and ice will build up. Before the Jeep, I had a RAM 1500 with factory running boards that survived rust free for the years, so I know at least that it's possible. Hope this particular story has a happy ending.

These really need a zinc primer, galvanizing, or something similar under the top-coat. One coat powder coating or paint systems don't have significant corrosion resistance- and once they're scratched, they have none. The most durable/corrosion resistant systems are generally 3 part. Zinc primer, epoxy mid coat, and urethane top coat.
I read in the main thread a while back that ZINK primer IS used before the powder coat is applied.

Hey all - rest assured, we stand behind the product. We’ll absolutely warranty replace that unit - something went wrong on that set, definitely should not rust - but we’ll certainly replace it.

Yes these are made ? in the USA.

Thx again -

I reached out to DCE early this year, re how they are made. The answer was steel pipe that is zinc primed before powder coating. My post and their reply is in their main thread. Seems like all brands are made via the same process. The pictured OP boards seem like they never received the zink primer before powder coating.
