Has anyone tried the Continental Cross Contact LX20 275/60r20 for $190/tire?

For what I know it’s significantly cheaper than the favorite Pirelli Scorpion with the same 70,000 mile warranty, light weight (39vs38lbs of the Pirelli) and it’s also Tesla OEM tire. Am I missing something?

The load index is 115 and Rivians technically require a 116 load index. Chain shops won't install it, mom & pop tire shops likely will, just need to fond one who knows how to jack a Rivian.

Well, the same applied for the Pirelli AS with 115 load index. But I see people get it over the Continental.

I have the Pirelli Scorpion AS+3 and wouldn't get those tires. The speed rating/temp, while fine for my climate, wouldn't be good everywhere, i.e. the Idaho desert I drove through last summer.

And that max 44 psi... No bueno. I'm running mine at 48psi cold with a max of 51, same as stock ATs.

For when my 20s need replacing, I’ve been looking at the Goodyear Workhorse HT-LT 275-65-20. I like that it’s Highway so more efficient but still retains some AT looks.

What’d be your 20” tire of choice?

Yeah, agree on that. Max pressure of 44 psi means inflating them to 41 - 42 psi, you need to allow for tire heating which increases the pressure a couple of psi. Running those tires on the street at that low pressure on a 7,000 lb Rivian is going to result in poor handling and potentially sidewall failure due to underinflation vs. weight.

Road noise is horrible and not really good wet traction. Had it on my model 3 and didn't like it.

Pirelli AS+3, I'm extremely happy with them. I just finished a 2k road trip and they help up very well.
Ah, I misread your previous post and thought you said you wouldn’t get the Pirelli.

As @LL75 said, they are noisy, wet traction isn't good, and they are even worse in light snow. hard pass.

Not the case. Tire maximum inflation as stamped on the tire sidewall is a “cold” inflation pressure. The safety factor for increased pressure due to tire heating is built into that stated max inflation.

Anytime tire inflation pressures are talked about it is always “cold” unless stated otherwise.

Thanks for the clarification. I still would not run this tire. It’s max pressure is almost 10% under Rivian‘s spec pressure Of 48 lbs.
