Not that I have anything against shopping malls—the more places to charge the merrier. But one would think that Big Bend and the Hill Country in ATX would be particularly appealing Rivian adventure kick-off locales.
The better hill country is just west of San Antonio, in my opinion...

Exactly. Places with actual service centers.
Hey, we'll have one by June 2024! lol. Apparently new from the ground up too, interestingly.

This kinda sucks, RANs are going in where there are already charger or where they are not needed. I mean the other closest ones are going in at Barton Creek Mall in Austin. How are these locations ADVENTURE network related? Shopping locally doesn't require charging, especially when there are like two other brands of chargers or more all over the place nearby.

I'd much rather some go in around the Hill Country here, for offroading like around Marble Falls or West of here. Or, I can go to San Antonio outlets now but I still can't make it down to South Padre really - its a charging desert so no adventuring on the beach there.

They seem to be taking the easy road in getting these out or hired a soccer mom to decide on placement. Ug.

This apparently can't be repeated often enough: They're installing stations where they think they'll be used the most. Period. That does include some in charging deserts to support "adventure" as y'all envision, but for a while at least, it's going to mean a lot of their stations are going to be in populated areas because that's where the VAST majority of people will be going. Adventure is great, but the number of people going out to remote areas is a small % of all Rivian drivers, and even among those going on those specific types of adventure, it's still a small % of their total miles driven and charge needed.

They've been pretty clear that their first priority is north-south corridors on both costs and then connecting those across the country. There's a really good reason for that priority: it's where the highest volume of drivers are actually driving and need to charge. They'll get to more remote places eventually.

It can also be much harder to find good sites with the required power infrastructure at the more remote sites.

San Antonio is a decent spot, I used the 350kW EA chargers (got 210kW in 102 degree heat) at the Thousand Oaks Walmart yesterday on my way back from Port Aransas. Would have rather used these had they been an option ? Also a good spot for Houston folks headed out west on I10 …

How did San Antonio score these before Dallas, Austin, and Houston?
There isn't much for charging in SA already, and almost no charging straight west out of town. There's options along I-10, but not anywhere else to the west really.

It’s a great spot perfect for people headed to the coast to adventure and the surrounding areas. It’s a great start hope they keep building it out.

This is a great spot for accessing IH-10 and the southwestern Hill Country area. Between camping, tubing, mountain biking, and hunting, this station has the potential to serve a lot of people. There is a good selection of restaurants and lots of places to drop a travel trailer while charging. Only 10 minutes from my house which is great as there is exactly one station (EA on Thousand Oaks) in all of San Antonio that has a charger with greater than 50 kw speed.

Dallas and Austin will be up when the Tesla adapter arrives.
