While I wait for my guide to respond, figured I'd ask here. When we installed the Rivian wall charger in our garage our electrician didn't have a 60A breaker on his truck so we used a 50A breaker and set the dip switches accordingly.

We have since replaced that with the correct 60A breaker and set the dip switches correctly, however the charger is still only putting out around 39/40A, instead of the full 48A we assumed we would get with this combo. I've confirmed this in the app and in the truck, as well (truck shows around 42A coming in).

I was skimming Reddit and the forums and saw a few other posts on this issue. One person commented it was something Rivian was able to "remote into the unit" and fix. We'd like to be able to get the full 48A/11.5kW, if possible. I've already tried rebooting the charger and pushing the dip switches back & forth a few times (no effect).

Anyone else had this issue and found a fix besides "wait for Rivian to get back to us"? ?

Yup, forum is full of similar accounts. Seems like Rivian has to remotely reset your charger to override the previous lower DIP switch settings.

Don’t talk to your guide call Rivian Service, they will send a reset to the charger. It is set to lock the lowest setting as the max and will not go higher after the dip switches are changed until the reset is issued.

All squared away now. Hit them up on website chat, they called me and had me submit a ticket through the app. They needed a bunch of photos of the charger which I sent last night. They sent the reset signal this morning and it's working fine now. Showing 48A in the app and in the truck.

That said, why they don't have the charger just respond to the dips switches is ?‍♂. Maybe it's a safety issue?

It's interpretation of the NEC 625.42. They probably didn't need to lock it down this way but doing so makes it obviously compliant with the code.

Thank you! Makes sense as soon as I googled that code. ?

Reading the code, they really didn’t need to lock it down this way. Personally, I think they should do a software update and fix this issues since so many people run into it. OR at the very least, update the manual to tell people about it.

The real problem, of course, is that Rivian doesn’t manufacturer the EVSE, some random third party company (probably Chinese) does, so getting them to modify firmware is no doubt difficult.
