Wow! Save on gas, exceed that savings in tires cost ?
My first pair on the front wore more on the outside. With the suspension design on the Rivian, the tire camber is very dependent on how the alignment was performed. They stay a lot more parallel than a car with standard struts would.
Yeah, that's really strange to me. With rotation I'm confident of at least 15,000 miles of usage, honestly probably more.
I am thinking of buying a set of 21s for road trip as well. Any draw backs to swapping between the 20s and 21s? Thanks!I have about 6000 miles on a set of 21”s I bought for road trips. The tires were brand new, I bought the complete set off a forum member a few months back.
I recently completed a 3000+ trip to TX with the 21’s. That trip plus a camping trip and some other local running around got me to about 6000 miles on these tires.
I use Conserve pretty much all the time on the freeway. In town I use All Purpose mostly. I typically switch to Conserve from All Purpose when I’ve already entered whatever freeway I’m traveling on and then switch back to AP when I exit the freeway.
I usually travel at around 80MPH on the freeway. The trip to TX much of the time I was going faster. I also had 2 motorcycles in the bed adding weight and wind resistance and therefore more work for the drive wheels. How to quantify the additional work, I do not know.
I swapped back to my 20”s yesterday and checked the ear on the 21’s. There is a 1mm difference, with the front drive wheels being at 4mm to the wear bar compared to 5mm to the wear bar for the rears.
So this tells me that for sure the drive wheels are wearing more quickly, no surprise. But also if I rotated them I would have very decent tire life from the set. Obviously when I remount them, I will rotate them.
Not sure if this helps anyone, but it’s just an PSA for anyone who cares. I added the photos but it’s really difficult to see the difference in tread.
Not that I can tell, no. I attempted to have the SC recalibrate to the 21's, they couldn't get it done for whatever reason, so I drove the truck calibrated to 20's with the 21's on. No discernible difference, although I'm sure the speedo must have been slightly off. But everything worked as intended with the truck, so I doubt I'll ever have the recalibration done in the future.

Yes, always. I was concerned that the lowest would cause uneven wear so I figured I test out the auto and it's working well in regards to wear.
Not to be argumentative, but I just checked my unused spare Pirelli 21" yesterday: 10/32" just like Tire rack says.9/32 according to my unused spare and my tire tread depth gauge. But ?‍.
I hope that my savings on brakes will help compensate for my additional expenses for tires.
Interesting, I've turned off auto ride height due to some members posting uneven tire wear (due to cambering). I may have to re-think this now...
