So service was very friendly as always and apparently I caused a little debate in Plymouth as they say all indicators on their end say it should not charge a phone. However they did note that it is clearly working for some people (including RJ) so they opened a ticket and are looking into if it is a new feature or just something that magically works in some instances.

I did mention that it was the absolutely smallest of concerns but plus side I scheduled my recall work too.

This is a perfect example of why the camp speaker was a terrible idea, and instead they should have done some third party integration of a camp speaker. Some option they have that was actually developed/supported by someone else.

The use of USB-C Power Delivery means there might be glitches with how it interacts with various phones, and chargers.

Compatibility issues can happen with Bluetooth

Connection issues can happen due to it being pulled out and pushed back in.

There is a non-zero chance that the lithium ion battery inside the camp speaker might cause a fire.

The lithium ion battery potentially limits the life of the camp speaker. If the electronics/firmware are designed around the idea of it being plugged in all the time then its life should be pretty long. Way longer than the life of any lithium ion drill I've ever owed since I forget to charge then, and then a year later they don't accept a charge.

RJ is a Apple guy so it could be that Rivian doesn't give Android devices much attention, and there are bugs/glitches with it.
Why are you making shit up? This works fine with Android, which at least two people confirmed before your post and which I can confirm again, using a Pixel 7 just like the OP. My Camp Speaker can be used to power my Android phone.

Almost certainly this is just the OP's phone settings, nothing to do with the Camp Speaker and not a Rivian bug. When the settings page shows that the USB is controlled by the connected device, of course you can't switch because you're not controlling the USB ... this is true of all devices - I just verified that with my own phone and a USB device other than the Camp Speaker.

To the OP: Try toggling the option on the bottom of the USB preferences page, which is "Charge connected device". You might have to then unplug the speaker and reconnect, and you might have to turn off the speaker and turn it back on, but you want your settings to have that turned off. Once that gets set it should default to the correct state next time.

Glad your Pixel 7 works for you; gives me hope a speaker reset will work. As you can see from my initial screenshot, the bottom connection button also gave the "couldn't switch" error message. And the option is not available to change when not plugged into the device so not a lot of options there.

It's LFP. The fire chance is exceedingly low.

My phone initially showed the same thing as yours, but after doing the things I mentioned I was able to turn that "Charge connected device" off and then my phone started charging from the speaker. I didn't really pay close attention to how I did it - I tried to toggle it with the speaker plugged in and turned on, and it wouldn't toggle just like you. Then I unplugged the speaker and the toggle turned itself off I think. I also power cycled the speaker at some point in there. So I don't have exact instructions, but I was on the USB setting screen the whole time and it was some combination of power on/off, plug/unplug USB, and trying to toggle that switch that worked. I think I also had to turn my phone's Bluetooth on. It only took about 30 seconds total.

Please let me know if you recall the lucky order of operations. Somehow between two trials with two phones and two cables I wasn't able to work it out. Thankfully the Bluetooth worked at least so I would have been all set with a fully charged phone.

Power cycle the speaker. I have other devices that seem to save the state of "charge off plugged in device" that have usb-c on both sides. If I power cycle them they will appropriately charge my phone after the cycle.

I can try this tomorrow with my camp speaker but I have a feeling this will fix it for you.

Thanks, to clarify you're saying to plug my phone into the speaker then power cycle the speaker? I'll be away from my speaker for a few days but will give that a try. Thanks!

Leave the phone unplugged while doing the power cycle. Devices seem to get stuck in the "accept power" state unless they start fresh without conditions.

Darn, hoped for the other answer. I'm pretty sure I power cycled it multiple times and definitely cycled between my 1st and 2nd test. I'll still try that when I'm reunited though.

How is "could be" making shit up? There are numerous Android devices out there in the wild, and clearly the RJ being an iPhone guy was just humor. We already know from phone as key that overall the iphone seems to have better support. So I was thinking that maybe there was just a glitch.

I did like your post as unlike my post it was actually helpful to the OP. I hope it resolves the problem.

Pretty impressive to know the battery chemistry used in an accessory like the Camp Speaker. :)

The flash light would be an easy one because the same cell as the battery pack which isn't LFP.

The flashlight uses the same cells as the camp speaker
