Anyone else have this issue? Tested with two Pixel (7 & 4a) phones and when plugged in instead of charging the phone the camp Speaker starts charging itself the phone battery. Both phones say "couldn't switch" when I go to USB settings to switch to phone control instead of connected device control. Also same issue trying to turn off device charging.
Help please!

That appears to be by design. The USB-C on the speaker is to allow charging the speaker when it is not docked. It does not support the ability to charge other devices.

RJ said in his interview with MKBHD recently that he uses the Camp Speaker as an oversized phone charger…

Literally the opposite to what Rivian is advertising.

Service just got back to me saying the same thing that it does not have the capability to function as a power bank/ charger. I'd swear I saw somewhere that it did this, maybe it was an old press photo or I was dreaming with unrealistic expectations. Seems like a miss to not be able to charge while the Bluetooth audio eats your phone battery. ?
Thanks for the responses!

How low was the speaker battery? Maybe there is some logic that it will only allow charging above a certain percentage of charge. Mine was at 100% just pulled out of its charging slot.

Galaxy S22+ here and I can confirm the camp speaker does charge my phone just like a normal battery bank.

Edit: @SSteveEV is your camp speaker on? It does need to be on to deliver the charge back to your phone. Also, I can confirm it charges my ipad Pro just fine too.

Charges for me. I had doubts that was something RJ would just go and lie about.

Weird thread.

Just a random thought - are you using a "normal" USB cable vs a "power only" cable? Something I bought came with a cheap "power only" cable and that cable does strange things or just does not work with other smart devices...

That's really weird.

By design a USB Power Delivery device like the Camp Speaker or a USB-C Battery (with PD capabilities) should be able to charge a phone or to charge if they're connected to a USB-C Wall Charger.

Before any Power Delivery happens they communicate with each other to work this out.

I don't see why you'd even want your phone to act as a charger. I have an iPhone that doesn't even have USB-PD.

RJ is a Apple guy so it could be that Rivian doesn't give Android devices much attention, and there are bugs/glitches with it.

Mine should have been at 100% too, pulled it right out of the truck. Could see that being an issue with it but I don't get why my phone still wouldn't give me the option to disable charging in that case.

Yes my speaker on since I was trying to charge and enjoy some tunes. In a different test it also lit up as soon as I plugged my phone in when it was off.

I tested with two different cords; the original google cord and another I have used for power and data. Had hoped that was the issue but alas it wasn't a fix.

Looks like I should have made this a poll to see how many charge and how many don't. Seems like I am in the minority (along with the service tech haha).

Per the manual the speaker should in fact have power output. Looks like I'll be calling customer service back with some more questions.
