For those who got R1S (or R1T) at original approximately $78k would you buy one for new price of approximately $93k?

Anyone patient enough to wait years for a Rivian won’t be paying those prices for a TRX though. You can order one for $80k with comparable interior quality and tech packages even after all the 2023 price increases if you’re willing to wait 3-6 months for it to be built. My 2022 was a great truck but I had been waiting for years for the call to get my R1T so it had to go.
I came from a 22 TRX as well and got an absolute steal on it by ordering. While I think the new price is still reasonable in comparison to the market, I'd have just kept my TRX at the new price. I kept both for 2 months and while I ultimately chose the R1T, it was close and there are plenty of things I still miss from the TRX.

I'd still pay $10k more for a dual motor truck, yes. I wouldn't splurge on the quad though at today's pricing.

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, or Grand Wagoneer. All three of those have insane features, just ooze lux, and are pretty off-road capable.

I have a friend that has a Grand Wagoneer and the air suspension is flawless. It has a kneel mode similar to Rivians' but works much better and smoother. Those types of things are just expected with a long standing manufacturer. Rivian feels like they just accomplished an engineering feat by enabling a kneel mode. The list of Wagoneer features is 10x Rivian's and it is roughly the same price.

I think you are right that there are other similarly priced and similarly capable across one or two dimensions of the R1 capability that are probably better options. But there is nothing from any manufacturer that checks all the R1 capability boxes anywhere close to 100k. If you look at the R1S, you may be able to get there, but the R1T currently stands alone. Comparably equiped ford's are more expensive, and don't have the driving dynamics or off road capabilities. Chevy and GM are more expensive or way less well equipped and not currently available.

If your wants are luxury cruiser SUV, sure there are dozens of other options. If your wants are luxury off road SUV, you have a similar number. If your want is a single machine that check those boxes with the acceleration provided by the r1T, you don't have any other options at the current price point. Everyone is different and not all of us want a single vehicle to do it all. I very much enjoy having a single ride in my R1T that does all the things I want in a vehicle as good or better than anything else I would drive without having to deal with multiple vehicles.

Is it worth it? I think it’s worth the price as compared to the competition on the market right now. Is it something I’d buy? I don’t think so. ~$80k was my price ceiling, and I’d have probably gone with one of my other preordered vehicles, and not a truck at all.

I’m glad I have my truck and the utility I’m getting out of it. I would not spend $103k to get the same truck today that I bought a month ago for $25k less than that.

I would pay the current price for the R1S but not for the R1T (I'd rather have a fullsize truck that can perform the tasks I need if I'm spending over 90k).

This thread has really devolved...so many of these answers are coming from a personal financial lens (e.g. $80k was already pushing it for my budget so NO, or I don't want to pay $95k for a toy...). These answers are useless IMO, and I say that as someone who is near the top end of his budget in buying the R1S at $80k.

It's a simple question. Just compare the value you're getting from your R1T/R1S to what else you could get for $95k on the market. I have yet to see someone offer up another vehicle in the $90-$100k range that they would prefer.
I agree with you on product. But part of the equation is service, and for me, that has been very disappointing. One can obtain lesser products with far better service experiences for the same money. Depends what you want. For me...my daily needs to be serviceable readily and easily. My toys, sure...I can wait months to get things fixed. But for me this is the daily...so the service experience has been sub-par on that front.

Makes sense and definitely worth calling out. It's understandable that service has suffered quite a bit as they have ramped production and I fear the lead times for appointments will only get worse once they introduce the permanent tonneau fix. The R1S will be my daily but I definitely wouldn't purchase it without a backup.

I'd cut quad motor and will go with a free paint option to bring the price down. There are more options coming out from other automakers but I don't see those are as exciting as Rivian. Yes, EX90 will have HUD, probably more refined ride, but I still have to go to dealerships, software update will be less frequent and less change, will have mid cycle refresh in 2-3 years and my car will already look outdated - saying a few. RAN will be also awesome addition for the places I want to go.

Yes, in my situation I will still get it but I'd probably wait a little bit for 2 motor version.

At the new pricing, I would have started considering a Taco for my truck needs and a luxury sedan as a daily driver.

Model 3 LR and decent tacoma for the same price? If you want to stay partially electric that is.

I definitely would have paid $100k for my truck. Although, I’m a lot poorer now than I was in May, so I’m glad I didn’t have to ?

Short answer yes

Financials are important to me but then again so is this truck. In 4 to 5 years I will probably upgrade to the latest Rivian truck at whatever price point they have.

Compared to what’s on the market, the current pricing seems correct. The EQS SUV, BMWiX, and Model X are all over $100K, depending on equipment.

I bought my R1T partially for the novelty. It’s unique and I like the attention. The R1S probably fits my lifestyle more, and I’d probably get a dual motor variant.

I’m a car nut, and like variety. I considered a Lucid Air Touring, but am didn’t want to spend $130, 000–I’m not that nutty

Yep, I wouldn't be thrilled about it, but the Lightning now falls in that price range, and I never want to buy a gas car again. Eventually, I think more competition will get the prices down. I am SUPER thrilled to have gotten it for the price I did PLUS the tax credit.

Social proof and fear of missing out are powerful persuasion tactics.
When making large purchases I always consider those effects on my decision.
