Thus far I'm seeing 1-2% vampire drain every day with gear guard on parked outside in 4X-degree weather overnight. Not enough to bother me, but this is something I have to imagine they can improve in software further as a couple of kWh is a lot of energy.

I'm seeing about 1 mile of loss over 12 hours overnight, or about 0.7% per 24 hours. Sometimes a little more, but never more than about 1%.

I tracked wifi activity from my truck and it connects and sends traffic to AWS multiple times a day for hours at a time:

My theory is that some data collection process is not well optimized. The behavior has changed recently but still seems excessive:

One member here documented (via power usage monitoring IIRC) that his truck woke up every three hours for an hour then slept for three hours then woke for an hour then slep for three hours .. .repeat.. repeat... repeat.

Extremely wasteful having the truck awake for 6hrs out of every 24hrs providing no benefit to the owner.

Like everyone else I am hoping a 2023 software update will address this ongoing battery drain issue.

For such a “green” company this energy waste goes against their core values.

I have owned my R1T for a month. I decided to actually document the battery drain during a 24 hour period after charging to 85%.

I was a bit shocked to discover that the truck lost 7 miles/2% of the battery charge in a tad over 24 hours. Truck was parked outside with overnight temps in the 50’s and low 60’s during the day.

Curios, are fellow members experiencing the same amount of battery pack drain?

Normal. Just be thankful you don't see 0F-20F temps in SoCal. Vampire drain 2-3X that.

And as others have mentioned over an over again, this concerns all of us... even those with excess solar production because that wasted Rivian vampire drain energy could be getting fed back into the grid vs. having our Rivian's burn it for no benefit.

Just got back from a 16 day trip and logged 1.9% phantom battery drain per day.

Gear guard off, no plug in charge, no camp mode, indoor garage circa 55F temps, Software v 2022.47.0.

Left vehicle 85% SOC with 251 miles of range, returned to 59% SOC and 174 mile of range.

Parked truck outside for 14 days while on travel - temp in the low 50's most days.

Start - 85% SOC
End - 63 % SOC

Took 27kW to charge back to 85% - lost about 2kW pre day average.

Man that sucks. I thought they had got most of that fixed. I have never been so excited and so apprehensive about getting a new vehicle in my life. They won’t give any real in depth information about anything. It is always more to come more to come. I think they are lucky there aren’t more buying options on the market yet.

Rivian leadership has been blessed by the constant delays of the Tesla Cybertruck.

Later in 2023 they we will see the pickup competitor, the Cybertruck, if everything stays on schedule.

Rivian’s pricing structure may be in serious trouble if the CT aggressively undercuts the R1T in pricing. Price sells cars.

Not sure how the Cybertruck can significantly undercut Rivian. The dual motor model Y starts at $65k now. A dual motor Cybertruck would be at least $10k more IMHO.

Thanks for posting this information. This is really concerning. I was planning on having a Rivian here in Hawaii. I'm back and forth between Hawaii and the mainland often and have been leaving my current vehicle (an ICE Jeep Cherokee) at the airport between trips, which occur anywhere between 3 and 8 weeks.

With this level of vampire drain, leaving a Rivian at the airport for up 8 weeks/2 months sounds unnecessarily risky.

Is vampire drain any better in shipping mode?

Curious if this would be the same case in shipping mode?
