Looks great. Certainly better than spending a whopping $3,500 with Rivian to upgrade to one of their black wheel options. I wanted black, but just couldn't justify a $3,500 price hike for them to paint my wheels. I've had similar quotes of between $600 and $800 to powder coat a set of wheels. Rivian would sell a BUNCH more black wheels if they charged $1,000 for the option. Chevy and others generally charge around $500 to $1,000. $3,500 was just silly.
Agreed, I am not sure why Rivian wants to charge nearly double the price to go from the bright to dark wheel. I've bad a few BMWs and to switch to black wheels it was either free or the same price as the non-black version.

Maybe they'll learn when not enough people order them and reconsider. Even at $1,500, I probably would have done it. But, for $3,500, figured I can easily get a set of custom wheels, tires and sensors and have a second set of wheels and tires, instead of just one set for that much. Which is exactly what I did. Spent about $2,500 to $3,000 and have a complete second set.

Yes, $3500 is way too much. I'm guessing they are just passing on the cost from whoever manufactures the wheels. I know it is not reasonable, but it would be great if they could offer powdercoating for their wheels. Even at something like $1000, they would be making a big profit and making customers very, very happy.
But, I understand that is not completely reasonable as even the legacy guys don't offer that, and Rivian has enough problems to fix as is.

I posted this earlier in this thread.

I sacrificed my aero covers to make my center caps and then recycled what was left. I would also recommend not using the aero covers unless you want to scratch the wheel coating. I noticed that the factory paint on the wheels was scratched where the aero covers mounted. My take is over time it's a wear spot that will only get worse if you R&R the aero covers frequently. Maybe a piece of PPF where the aero covers mount would help.

okay ... what should I be looking for to find a good shop to do this for me? a google search for "powder coating near me" does list several places, but they all only have a dozen or so "reviews", so I don't know whether I can trust that or not.

Also my search pulled up a link comparing powder coating and epoxy coating with the recommendation that epoxy coating is more durable and longer lasting. Has anyone had any experience with this option?

Two questions for ya! How did you cut out the centercaps? Also, did you have a choice of gloss or satin finish? Just curious on why you went with satin?

Looks awesome!!!
Thanks! I used a rotozip bit on my dremel to cut the center caps out of the aero covers. Here's a thread on how I did it.

There were about 5 different sheens that I could have chosen. All the way from matte black to high gloss black. The shop had samples that I held up to the truck and eventually chose satin as it matched the plastic cladding around the lower part of the body on the truck.

There were a few cars in the shop with matte, satin and gloss and I liked the satin the best. The shop did say that gloss would show scratches more than satin.

Not sure if this is going to help but, try searching for "wheel repair" or "wheel powder coating". If there is a custom tire place in town as them as they might know someone.

With regards to epoxy coatings. I've sprayed epoxy paint on bare metal body panels in order to protect them prior to top coats but, I have never sprayed wheels with it. Epoxy is very tough but everything I've sprayed required a top coat. Sorry I'm not of much help with the epoxies.

Awesome! Thank you for taking the time to help and respond! I agree...I'm digging the satin over super high gloss black.

I got mine done in Seattle Aera at “Sound Wheels” for $1150 out the door. That included removing the tires and re-balancing. Turn-around was 1 day. Everyone else quoted $225 per wheel, some requested only wheels be brought in and the lead time averaged around 1 week. Extremely happy with how mine turned out.

Wow those wheels look great!! I'm thinking of doing the same thing with the 22 bright wheels.

Wow...I don't know how you guys are getting pricing of $600-ish. I'm in Minnesota and getting prices of about $1000.
