There is usually a pretty good market for a few of these that are bought for the tear-down / benchmarking market. An OEM that wants to get their hands on one does not really care if the vehicle is $10k over market if they can cut a few months off the benchmarking study.Ladies and gentleman, our first R2 flip has been spotted by a private seller at an asking price of $79,900. Dune R1T in the background.

If this sells for that price, I will be immediately listing my R2 upon delivery and utilizing my second R2 reservation for my personal vehicle.Ladies and gentleman, our first R2 flip has been spotted by a private seller at an asking price of $79,900. Dune R1T in the background.

Worth a shot. But the R2 demand is going to soften pretty quickly. If you are ok with keeping your first R2, then it’s no harm no foul!If this sells for that price, I will be immediately listing my R2 upon delivery and utilizing my second R2 reservation for my personal vehicle.
Less than $12.5k after you pay taxes on the capital gainsI would rather have the R2 than the 12.5k profit.
My R2 total is 67,450 out the door in SoCal.
Dual reservation holders will win, if there is enough demand to sustain flips. But I don’t play those games for $12.5kI would rather have the R2 than the 12.5k profit.

I'm definitely keeping my R2. But I have 2 reservations, so if someone is impulse buying and spending more than they should on one of these, I'm happy to use both reservations to sell one and keep one.I would rather have the R2 than the 12.5k profit.

I left that part off, pretty sure that won’t see the light of day.Less than $12.5k after you pay taxes on the capital gains![]()
You assume all humans are logical, rational beings. What's the incentive to pay a significant markup for a flip? If you want an offroad-capable EV, the R1S is available immediately. If you want a fast commuter EV, the Model Y (and 5 other decent EVs) are available immediately. And if you wait to buy an R2 you'll get one with the early production kinks fixed and maybe new hardware. I just don't see it--it isn't 2020 anymore.
I don't think there's going to be a big market for regular consumers to pay premiums especially without Point to Point even released yet. Maybe some teardown firms and OEMs will buy some to understand the cost optimizations. Plus, to benchmark against their upcoming vehicles. That's still a pretty limited market. What's the incentive to pay a significant markup for a flip? If you want an offroad-capable EV, the R1S is available immediately. If someone is willing to be $80K for R2, as the cliche goes, there is a sucker born every minute.Flipping Crazy. Greed gonna greed!
