Rivian R1T R1S 7 months later and a 50k repair bill, I have my R1T back! IMG_9214

I was t-boned March 30 and finally got my truck back November 7th! Dealing with insurance, waiting on parts and repairs has been a slow nightmare. The bill was originally $9k to fix, then it went to $24k and finally settled around $50k. This last month it has been done and just sitting at the Rivian service center in San Jose. Very frustrating.

I have gone from wishing it was originally totaled, to being 100% sure I was going to sell it to avoid another scenario like this, to now being behind the wheel again and absolutely loving it. I was avoiding paying the $1100 tags in California but just did that today so it confirms I am holding on to her.
Before the accident the wind noise on the freeway was terrible. I took it in last year for Rivian to look at it and they said there was nothing wrong. Now that I have a new door it is no longer a problem. Another gripe I previously had was bad estimates for range. That must have been taken care of in updates.

And before any of you ask, I cannot file diminished value as I had an injury settlement and did not realize it absolved me of the ability to do a diminished value. That is a hard live and learn moment. All in all just glad to have my truck back

Does the 50k include rental car during all this time?
No, the girl who hit me had the least amount of coverage legally allowable in CA and she hit another car also so it had to go through my insurance. I did not have rental coverage but thankfully had another car available to use.

Yes the legal minimums are a joke, un/under insured coverage is the most important option on the coverage.

Quite an experience and glad you still are positive in your R1T

For future reference, never settle with insurance companies on your own. Get a lawyer. 30% commission they take is well worth it. You will end up with a better outcome even after they take their 30% commission.

The exception being that if you have a claim with specials close to the available policy limit. There's a good chance insurance pays out the limit if you show them proof of your bills. It's insane to just give 30% away to a lawyer.

Did they have to replace the battery pack with a hit like that?

Agreed. $5000 is the minimum required in CA, which won't cover anything more than some broken plastic trim pieces. Any more damage than that will easily take it over the minimum.
The sad things is, the stupid people who usually take the absolute minimum are the ones who could least afford to pay the difference themselves.

It cost an extra $50/year to go from $5K to $50K coverage and only an additional $6/year to bump $50K to $100K.
$100K is enough to cover most cars around me assuming I only hit one car. I'd be screwed if I hit two Rivians.

It’s incomprehensible for California to have such a low minimum. It’s $6,000 to fix a ding and deep scratch on my door!

Wow. And I thought mine being gone for 3 months for a 26k sideswipe was bad (drivers side gear tunnel and over the rear wheel). Even though I had her on the drive cam from 3 angles the insurance companies decided to split it 40% me -60% her, but it really was all her fault.

Insurance then went up and I swapped carriers on my brokers advice. Sucks all around.

I have had people ask me if I wanted a new truck or a refund and the answer is the same as yours, I just wanted my truck back and everything to go back to normal....
