Greetings,

I had been thinking about ordering an R1S for a few months, and a few weeks ago I finally did it and placed a deposit down!….But unfortunately it was the same day Rivian announced their impending integration with the NACS and supercharger network, so I KNEW my reservation was most likely a few years away. But luckily, I did a search of available R1S and found this amazing Green on Green Adventure Series, with a production date on the sticker of 5/24/23. When I picked it up this morning, it had 120 miles on it. Even better, I was able to purchase it for less than it would cost to configure the exact specs direct from Rivian.

In the short time I have had it, I am quite impressed. The driver+ has been up to par with the Tesla basic Autopilot…at least on the roads it is enabled on. After owning 7 Teslas, this is my first foray into something new since 2017. Some of the things I miss from Tesla are purely software, which means they can be added later on. But after a day of ownership, I think the hype is justified. Now I am waiting to see how seamless the transfer process of the care into my Rivian account will be. Hopefully it wont take a few weeks.

That's my EXACT config (double forest ??)! Will be picking mine up on Wednesday in Costa Mesa and am transitioning from a Model S to the R1S. I also have a Lucid Air so it will be good to compare both newcomers in fit/finish/performance. Of course they are completely different vehicles, but will be interesting nonetheless.

I also came from a Tesla and totally agree on the software piece. And I definitely miss the blind spot cameras that Tesla has, maybe we’ll get that eventually.

For me, driver+ blows autopilot out of the water though (where it works) because I think autopilots need for torque on the wheel is downright dangerous. Slightly too much force and you’re going to swerve unexpectedly. My wife HATED using autopilot for this reason.

Blind spot camera's have been announced and might even be included in the next release.

Not having a Tesla, can someone elaborate on how this feature is implemented? Is it just another view on the cameras page or something better?

I thought I saw that when the blinker is turned on a window with the side rear facing camera would pop up on the driver display. I can’t find that now so do not hold me to it.

when you initiate a lane change or turn, that camera will pop up on the center screen. At least thats how it was on the S. I also agree with the software piece, these are all things that can be added via a software update.
One thing that cant be added via software update, and that i do miss is the yoke. I like have a clear view of the dash and not being blocked by the upper half of the steering wheel. With that being said though, i like the fact that now i have a horn where it suppose to be.

my wife's Y just feels cheap to me now. still fun to drive, but I much prefer the Rivian.
