Document finally available. Looks like the test results yield 141-142 kWh usable battery.

Nice, well looks like not much more than large pack! I am seeing 10 kwh usable difference between large and max pack. Am I reading this right?

Well it is good to see the EPA test results are better than *advertised.
R1T DM
21"-427 miles (*MP 410/LP 352)
22"-388miles (*MP 380/LP 341)
R1S DM
21"-411 miles (*MP 400/LP 352)
20"-384 miles (*MP 355/LP 307)

Still surprised it is that much more from 14kwh.

I can’t seem to find the numbers for R1T with AT 20” package…

According to what I see in those documents the usable is 10-11 kwh difference between Large and Max pack. Again I don't typically read these documents, but it looks like the watt hours converted to kwh show the difference. Not sure how they are getting more out of it unless there is different tuning for max pack. Increased cell energy density is not going to make the truck more efficient....it just allows you to extract and put in more electrons.

Confirmed with what we thought and wholly disappointing. Now the real question is how they got to 400 miles and what the efficiency improvements can be attributed to. Spoiler, they did something shady and it's not an apples to apples comparison between large and max.

So I don't know a whole lot about the EPA range testing, but does Rivian have control over these coefficient numbers? That could explain the better (rated) "efficiency" in the max pack:

Or maybe the max pack is truly more efficient in some magical way I don't understand.
Yes, those coefficients are supplied by the manufacturer

Those are unadjusted. There is some kind of multiplier they apply to get the end EPA number.

I think it's basically, here is what the car could get at 25-35mph where drag isn't really a thing, but no one drives that slowly so we need to give them a realistic number. Oversimplifying, but maybe it's adjusted to 55-65mph to arrive at the EPA number.

I’m a big fan of the max pack! It gets meaningful more range and can get 287 miles in ~35 minutes from a DCFC. Large pack can’t do that.

Is it worth $10k more? To me, ?
But it's not really 287 miles in 35 min if the large pack and Max pack miles were calculated differently. Which they were. Those are fake 287 miles basically, and they'll need adjusted down to match what the testing multiplier was used on large pack.

You really shouldn't be a fan of the max pack because it's over promising and under delivering wildly.

They’re not fake miles. Don’t get the max pack. No one is telling you to.

These 2 quotes pretty much sum up feelings on the max pack. :CWL:

I’m a fan too. Just to create some drama for you since you clearly want to dictate what others should think of the max pack. Also I’m totally biased and don’t want to feel bad about my own decision. But then again, I really don’t feel bad about it.
