I placed a deposit for the R1S in November 2020. Desperately needing a car, I picked up the 2023 Genesis GV60 in the middle of last year. Initially, I thought I would flip the R1S, but after attending the R1S first-mile event in March, I changed my mind. I sold the Genesis for a good amount of loss and purchased the R1S.

Here's my accessories list:
1. LinerX mats (still waiting for delivery).
2. Twraps - Phone wireless charger, screen protector, center console.
3. Samsung Shield SSD.

Modifications/Upgrades:
1. Ceramic Pro ultimate ION armor package with full IR window tinting. Front windows and windshield at 70%, side windows at 5%, roof and rear windshield at 35%. Done at an Elite Dealer in the Bay Area.
2. RMAXX running boards ordered.
3. DIY - CarPro CQuartz Leather 2.0 ceramic coating

Likes:
1. Smooth ride.
2. Range is better or in line with EPA ratings, use 100% all-purpose with standard height and soft suspension.
3. Rivian sound system.
4. Turning radius is far better than Genesis GV60.

Dislikes:
1. Not happy with conserve mode ride quality or keeping the suspension in auto setting. The auto setting causes a constant tick-tock sound that annoys me.
2. Rattle noises from panels if I increase the sound level beyond 13 to 15.
3. Headrest - My wife is 5'1'' and has a hard time with the headrest in the passenger seat. Rivian should have designed the seat with adjustable headrests; it feels like it was designed with 6 ft people in mind.
4. HVAC - Feel fan noise is louder and also weaker than all other cars I have owned in the past.

So many random people in parking lots wanted to take a look at the interior, and one common compliment is that it's better than Tesla and has a high-quality interior.

Looks sharp! How hard/time-consuming was the DIY ceramic coating to install? Do you recommend it?

Super easy, all three rows took less than an a hour. Tbh, I really don't know the benefits. Read it in Tesla forums that it prevents color transfers and helps with cleaning.

I am always curious about leather products on plastic. I have no clue if it works or not BTW. If it does that is fantastic. It’s just that plastic has completely different characteristics/needs than an organic material like leather. I am imagining ceramic works well as it works on plastic and paint. It sure can’t hurt. For plastics UV protection is the most important thing…or so I’ve read. Let us know how the ceramic works over time. Nice new ride and thanks for the details.

they need to fix that rattle noise when play high bass or high volume. I see so many r1s have the same problem. I brought mine in 2 months ago and they did some damping but still there. It is in the passenger 3rd row area where the subwoofer is. !!!

I’ve had mine for two months now. I did have a paint protection film installed on the front and an exterior ceramic coating on the rest of the vehicle. I also got the TWraps phone charger and the center console tray organizer. FWIW, I got the charger from Amazon and they didn’t have the wraps to match them to the interior there. However, TWraps sent me one for free, which I thought was super nice.

I also added the Canvasback cargo liner. I can’t say enough good things about those. I’ve had them on two Teslas (a Model S and a Model Y) and they are great. They protect the entire interior, don’t interfere with functionality, and are super easy to clean. Very well worth it. I got the entire set, from the barrier hanging on the front seats all the way back to the tailgate protector.

In addition, I tinted the front side windows (it’s legal here) and had a chrome delete installed on the chrome bit on the roof. I think it looks great, but you be the judge.

Overall, I love this vehicle. I’ve had Teslas for seven years and this is night and day. It’s like getting into a vehicle built by someone who actually cares about cars, and not just software. The highway assist feature is superior to Tesla’s “full self driving” apart from the fact that it doesn’t change lanes. There are definitely some features missing, like lane changing, adapting to the speed limit, and ability to use steering assistance off highway. However, it is much smoother than Tesla’s system, and so far, it hasn’t tried to kill me. That’s unlike my Model Y, which tried to kill me the week before I got rid of it. (It centered itself between the off ramp and the traffic lane and headed straight toward the safety barrier between the lanes at 68 mph).

I’ve not had many of the problems that OP has had with respect to fit and finish. Generally, I feel lucky. The only mishap I had was that the Rivian logo on the rear right quarter panel fell off in the car wash but Rivian sent out a service technicIan who fixed that.

The vehicle is making some strange rattling noises, but I think they are related to the air suspension compressor. They were a little jarring at first, but I got used to them.

The lack of a glovebox is very strange and unusual. I’m trying to figure out a good place to keep registration and insurance paperwork, and the best I have found is held in by the strap in the center console.

The camp speaker has awesome sound and is a total pain in the neck to pair to your phone. I can’t really figure out why it is so hard and why I have two or three of them paired. It seems to somehow create new Bluetooth IDs. It also sometimes stays paired when it is docked in the car, which is very strange. Overall, great idea, but it needs some software cleanup.

I also noticed that it is very liberal about detecting my phone key so when you are out camping it locks and unlocks all the time. Using camp mode helps with that though. Just make sure you don’t run out of battery on your phone or bring a key card.

Towing with this rig is incredible. It’s like it’s not even there. It also is great that it auto detects the trailer brakes and can use those without some kind of adapter. I love that feature.

I routinely have people stop and stare at it in parking lots. Once I came out and found a woman taking photos of it. It’s also fun to get waved at by other Rivian drivers.

Overall, I’m really happy with it. It’s a considerably better vehicle than the Model Y, which was a considerably better vehicle than the Model S.

You can manually raise ride height settings when Conserve. To the right of the screen, after selecting Conserve mode, select "standard" ride height along the right side of the screen.

My neighbor just picked one up and its consistent, his first comment, "its built better than Tesla".
The other thing he said was the Tesla charger + adapter was faster than his Rivian charger. Not sure if you agree with that sentiment or have tried.

On the AC output, try putting the auto with the recirculating on. This has helped tremendously with my R1T in getting cooled down quicker and remaining cool on hot days as you go down the road.

Agree with you on the issues on the Auto adjustment when in drive modes. Whenever i put the R1T into conserve especially and with Auto, i seem to have issues. And when i leave in conserve mode and park it at the house overnight the next day the front right suspension is nearly on the tire. I've had this front right issue since getting the truck last June, but it's much worse when in Auto and Conserve. Tech told me the reason Right front has trouble sometimes is it's furthest from the compressor motor and sometimes it bleeds off air quicker than others. Annoying, but manageable so far with nearly 16,000 miles on the R1T. I have an R1S on order, but in a state with no service center due to state legislation, so being held hostage on getting my R1S until either the state changes their mind on Rivian service center, or i give up my preorder!

We have rattles from the speakers, too (we have Meridian audio)! Songs with even the smallest amount of bass at a moderate volume rattle the doors. Truly awful! We’re holding out hope the Rivian team can address this at our upcoming service appointment on June 5!

Please keep us update if they able to fix it. So far, whatever they did didn't fix my problem
