I'm really stuck here with what to do, and my guide is taking his sweet time. CS told me the guides are extremely busy, which I can understand, but still feels like this is an easy fix. I got access to the shop about 2 weeks ago, and saw my build, but an LE pop up. I grabbed it, and immediately was worried when I saw the vin. My guide said its an April 2023 build and never left the factory.

CS told me they would have it removed, but my guide had to do it. He said he would but then I'd be stuck in some sort of purgatory where nobody knew when I'd get my car. Then he told me I could have shop access. That was like 5 days ago and the car is still in my account and I have no update. I'm almost to the point of saying screw it, and just buying this one.

Thoughts?

April build, June build and August build all needed service tickets for minor factory QC items like panel gaps, washer fluid not working, alignment, paint blemish, damaged / defective trim pieces, etc.

I would rather make my decision based on how bad I need a new vehicle, the benefits of launch edition because of free wheels with the right configuration, vehicle color / configuration preferences and trade in / rates over April 2023 or August 2023 build date.

To be honest, I'm not in a rush, I just want my vehicle.

We're actually moving twice in the next 3 months, once to a rental home, and then once to our new home. Will have to trickle charge until we get to our new house.

I have been through this loop many times. The normal process is:

Guide unlinks you from your VIN (takes 24 hours)... BUT there is an important step... make sure you have your guide adjust your config slightly so that it does not match the VIN you are decoupling from. What can happen (happened to me three times) is that you get "unlinked to a VIN" and a few hours later the system automatically matches you back to the VIN because it is available and matches your config.

Once that is done, Guide puts in a request to give you shop access (takes at least 24 hours, but can take a few days.

So, in theory the fastest it can happen is 48 hours. But... after the third time getting stuck in the loop my Guide escalated to his leadership and I went from decoupling to shop access in 5 mins... so it doesn't REALLY need to take that long.

This didn't match my spec, because it was an LE. I picked it in the shop, so it shouldn't assign it to me.

I just need him to unlink me, and put me back in the shop. Doesn't sound very difficult, I'm just assuming he's swamped.

Actually... Iit can reassign it to you... your order has changed and is now an LE config. if you go look at your config (after being unlinked) it will now match the config of the R1 you picked from the shop, not your original order config (it does not change back). So you need to ask your guide to change your config back to what you want (guide cannot do this till you are unlinked). Go back and look at your emails from Rivian. As so as you confirmed your R1 from the shop you should have received an email that stated, "your configuration has changed".

And yes... you would think it would be easy to "unlink"... but it sounds like your guide sends an email to another team, they have read that email and take action. very manual process. Your guide cannot just "click a button" and make it happen.

Every Rivian for the next couple years will have the same build concerns. No difference whether you buy an earlier build or later one. Actually, if you buy a later one, there’s more chance of Rivian cost cutting. For example, they’ve taken away wood trim behind front seats, frunk 12V, one of two horns, inferior sound system, and some others already.

grab it if you want too. 99.9% of the issues are fixable at the service center and shouldn't affect driving.

I just had them adjust may passenger side doors after 7 months of ownership. Looks great, problem solved and they didn't charge me. Thrilled to have driven my R1S for those months though.

Nope.
A lot of people park their cars out under sun everyday either at home, at work, or running errands.

We got an April build 7xxx VIN R1S back in June and it has been great! If I had to go through the same decision-making process knowing what I know now, I would get it again. It needed one minor adjustment for the lift gate because of slight rubbing when opening after the vehicle sat in the sun enough to get hot. Of course we picked it up on a sunny day so our delivery person was very apologetic, helped me put in my first ticket (with attached video to show exactly what was going on) and it got resolved quickly. We’re creeping closer to 5,000 miles with no significant issues so far.

I asked CS if I could start the purchase process and he said to wait and talk to my guide Monday before doing anything.

My R1S is vin 8386 and I have had ZERO issues with it. My R1T that I had for over a year was vin 6140 and it had a number of issues (battery pack failed, rear drive unit failed, etc, etc.) but once things were fixed it was solid. I think you'd be fine with that vin number. I think a lot of people get wrapped around the axle when they choose a car from the R1 Shop and it did not just roll off the assembly line. Even if you get a 21000 vin today in 3 months they'll be rolling 30000 off the production line. Do they get better at build cars... ABSOLUTLELY. The difference between my June 2022 R1T and my R1S are like night and day. They are figuring it out and getting better. I would not be concerned with a 8xxx vin, but that's just me.
