Anyone had his windshield replaced by a service center? How was the experience? How long did it take?

just curious, why don’t you have someone fix the crack in the windshield rather than replacing the whole thing? It seems a whole lot cheaper

Depends on the size of the crack. We have our Rav4 Prime with a crack in it. The guy came out to fix it and said that as long as it was smaller than a quarter it can be fixed....anything larger the repair wouldn't cover it up but it would prevent it from "spider webbing" faster. We now have 3 chips in the windshield (RAV4...not R1T) and we are going to live with them until we feel it is best to replace it.

We have windshield replacement on our policy.

Why bother getting it replaced? FWIW, I've put 30k+ miles/year on my daily drivers for the last 30+ years and if I were to replace a windshield EVERY time I got a chip/crack in it, then I'd be replacing them YEARLY.

AFAIC, as long as you can see out of it sufficiently, for that kind of replacement cost, I'd at least wait for your second or third crack. ;-)

I personally would repair the chip. From past experience, the replacement windshield never really sits the way the original did.

I commute 137 miles daily and a cracked windshield is my biggest worry. I have 3 very small imperfections that I’ve already collected from rocks hitting my windshield.☹

$1740 and it took them 5 days - that was 6 weeks ago. I just cracked the new windshield this morning so I’ll be calling them again to see if they can book me in again. So frustrating

how do you DIY fix? I have a similar commute to you and just cracked my new windshield - is the pic attached repairable by me?

You can purchase the windshield repair kits on Amazon. I personally just take it to a repair place. There’s plenty on the side of the road here in Houston. My guy charges $20 so I don’t mess with it myself.

The chip ended up spreading…dropped it off on Monday 8/7 at the Chicago service center - they are replacing it this week. Total was $1901 which is $200 more than I paid 9 weeks ago for the same issue
