Here’s a Reddit thread I started for a Model Y group. Give it a read - it has a ton of great info. The thread has a photo gallery, which includes some photos of my Rivian.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModelY/comments/11qgyvh/all_things_window_tint/

I highly recommend FormulaOne Pinnacle 25 for the front two doors, and Llumar AIR 80 for all rear glass. This gives you a 1-2% difference between front and rear. You can substitute Pinnacle 25 for Llumar IRX 25. FormulaOne is a product line under Llumar, and Pinnacle and IRX are nearly identical film formulas (if not exact same)

I also opted for Pinnacle 50 on the windshield. With Ocean Coast interior, the cabin doesn’t look too dark at all.

Thank you for this:

I am going to get my R1S tinted. I live in Ohio where it gets hot during the summer but not ridiculous, in addition, I park in a garage at home and park in a garage for work. That being said I'd like to match the fronts to the rears (or close) and then ceramic the windshield and roof for some increased heat protection. I really am not a sunshade guy - just dont like the hassle.

What exactly should I be telling my tint person for each location (they're excellent, did my 911 and PPF/ceramic etc)

1. front windows (30% ? with high quality ceramic)
2. windshield (70-80%, ceramic only?)
3. rear 5 windows (anything at all, clear ceramic?)
4. pano roof

i also would like to avoid the optical distortion you mentioned.

You can go any shade you want on the windshield, however keep legal limits in mind and consider a medical sunshading DMV waiver should one exist in your state/locality.

When using Llumar/FormulaOne products, 25% on front windows and 80% on rear glass is a near perfect match (delta of 1%) on the R1T and R1S. Speak to the tint shops and let them know what percent you want on the front and ask for what would be an identical match on the rear. Feel free to bring back options here and I will help validate.

Pano roof you can choose whichever, but personally, I'd still go with a sunshade. It does a better job blocking heat, and is a fraction of the cost compared to ceramic tint. If you still decide to go with ceramic tint for the pano, go with the darkest shade to promote the most heat rejection.

Thanks for all the help here - my truck went in for tint this morning with Llumar products. We are going to do Stratos 70 on the windshield and rears and Pinnacle 30 on the front driver and passenger windows. I don't like my windows too dark, so I think this will be perfect. The other thing I asked and was pleasantly surprised about is Stratos has a 1x replacement warranty so if/when I have to get my windshield replaced, I just simply bring it back to the installer and they'll re-tint the new windshield free of charge. This cemented my decision to do Stratos on the windshield!

Our R1S is currently getting tint applied and we are doing much the same as you: LLumar FormulaOne Pinnacle 30 on front row windows and Air 80 on remaining windows, liftgate glass and windshield.

Nice yeah I actually prefer the front windows to be a little lighter so people can see the driver. I don’t need for privacy and think it’s a little bit safer for road driving. I’ve never done my windshield before so I’m excited to see how the heat rejection is with the Stratos on the windshield

I’m doing 70% IR windshield and 50% fronts because I don’t like them too dark and don’t care if they match the rears.

The tint shop told me the factory rear are 35% and the roof is like 5% if I recall correctly.
I did this using top quality ceramic (I want heat reduction not gansta look): 70% windshield, back windows, and roof, 50% front side windows to match rears. Windshield and roof make a huge difference to cabin temps and allow A/C to run less intrusively.

About to do 35% front, with 3M film. I don't care if it matches the rear, I need visibility for dark rainy days in PNW.

FYI Pinnacle 30 will leave your front windows slightly lighter compared to the rears after application of AIR 80.

Pinnacle 25 + AIR 80 will be a 1% VLT difference, which is a near perfect match.

Great to hear. Ended up going full Stratos all the way around this morning at Autoplex here in Colorado (Northglenn location). Cost was about $900 and did Stratos 30 on the fronts and Stratos 70 on the back and windshield. They were done in 3 hours, dropped at 8am and was ready to pick up by 11am. I can already tell a huge difference in heat rejection this afternoon.

The fully transferrable warranty plus the 1x replacement of the windshield was worth the Stratos upgrade.

I will have to check it out. The rears are 22% from factory and I wonder if the differences in tint make it hard to see out of rear windows. Eyes have to adjust to varying brightness. If that is not true, I will remove it and do a 50% tint. I will install it myself, so it's only $70 expense.

Already did 3M PPF front and rear, except on the hood. Hood will have to wait a few weeks.

Thats a VERY good price for also getting the roof done. I paid $900, so an extra $225 to get the roof done would have been pretty awesome but most places I talked to wanted an extra $600-700 to do the roof and it's already dark enough.
