Have you tried asking your Rivian Assistant?? :D
That's hilarious. I did actually LOL when I read this. Then I asked her. She gave me all kinds of info about what kneel mode is, but not why it was grayed out.

In any case, resolved.

I toggled the 'Auto' ride height off and back on again:

And just like that, the quick kneel button started working again. Button is white and clickable when parked. Open the door, button turns gray. Close the door, button turns white again. Able to lower when the tailgate is down, etc. Functioning as desired.

Software defined vehicles. Huh. 😆

Edit: Just catching up on other comments. Is it because I had the camera view open? Good grief. 🤦

^^^ Appears this. Not gonna say anything else about this, but c'mon. How dumb. The camera view actually allows you to see what's around you better, and you'd think would be better for kneel. But what do I know? 🤣🤣

It always annoys me that some vehicle functions aren't available in reverse or with camera open - even when those controls are still visible! (You can't turn on window defog/defrost when in Reverse, even though the on-screen button is still there.)

Sounds like a bug to report and for Rivian to...

I suspect there is something else driving this occasional issue, but not sure yet. Next time it happens I'll try to get a video.

This morning I was driving from my destination at about 62 MPH, and I noticed that the vehicle suspension was lowered. I came to a light and expected the vehicle to rise to standard mode, but it didn’t. I checked the setting and auto was off, which it typically is. When I initially started my drive, I did not notice it being in the lower suspension. In fact when I got to my destination, I recall it kneeling. It seemed like it got stuck in the lower mode after kneeling. I enabled auto mode and the vehicle began to rise to standard almost immediately.

Yes, it is annoying that being in the camera screen, blocks the ride height adjustments. I asked RA and was told she could not while the camera screen was selected.

is it a bug or some kind of safety issue. I cannot think of any safety issues.

Not completely off topic, but in hopes that Rivian monitors and picks up suggestions for improvement from these forums:

My single biggest niggle since trading in my Defender for my R1T is losing the button inside the tailgate that allows me to raise /lower the suspension.

It made hooking the trailer a breeze--no cranking the trailer jack. Just back under the hitch, raise the suspension to seat the ball, rotate the jack up, and done!

Definitely a first-world problem (or even 1% problem) but it was an incredibly useful feature, and even better than the solution OP needs--it puts the controls right where you need them.

I don’t own an R1T but this sounds like a really useful option. If you haven’t already, I recommend you submit this feedback via the mobile app from the home screen at the bottom, ‘Share feedback’.

I will, and, it was!

When I first got the Defender I thought it seemed pretty frivolous.

Now it's like I lost a thumb: "Damn, I gotta crank the jack BY HAND!?!" 🤣
