That price, for that range, is a non-starter. I’d pay $60-70K for just over 300 miles of range but that‘s pretty much it.

Beyond that, the Buzz is damn good lookin’. Photos really don’t do it justice. Maybe I’ll be able to consider one after a mid cycle refresh in a few years.

They will sell some just based on nostalgia alone, but after the long delay, the specs are disappointing at that price. They would sell a ton of camper vans if they decided to go that route.
I actually dislike interior seating more than exterior.

We were gung ho for the Buzz when we saw the initial renderings, it was 110% what we needed; large cargo area if easy to remove seats were taken out (like our Honda Element), and good looks. That's all we wanted. Then they started enshittifying the design with a plush, less practical and adaptive interior. So we looked at the van version while in England, and thought we might get that and adapt it to take occasional reating, but then VW decided no van for the US! It's as if they were in my head, trying to crush me with disappointment! Then my wife suggested Rivian, and she's not a truck fan...

We saw one in San Juan Capistrano as well. It looks cute, we didn’t see the interior but with the 230 mile range, it’s disappointing to me.

We had a chance to get in, touch and feel the vehicle at the auto show.

While its not for us, the vehicle is much nicer than any images I've seen in person.

I'm pretty sure that it will appeal to a segment of buyers and they'll love the retro funkiness that the vehicle brings.

If I was looking for a minivan, it definitely is one of the top contender.

I sat in the shorty version last year. It's definitely very cool. The range/price kills the appeal though. Could be a cool kid shuttling vehicle around town though.

I just did a survey for Rivian. They ask what percentage of my range do I use daily. Only about 10%.

I bought the max battery for a few long trips a year. My guess this vehicle will be great around town, not meant for road trips. I personally don’t know the battery chemistry, so I don’t know what it’s charged to daily and what is reasonable to drive it down to daily.

I think fit and finish will be important. If someone jumps in to test drive, does it feel, drive like a $60k car?

I love seeing competition.
I don’t think the smaller range is that big of a deal breaker either. At $70k, I think buyers just expect more power or range to justify the price. About the same power and range as a $25k Chevy Bolt.

In the SF Bay area the "market adjustment" is $15k. My wife wants one but...

The problem with the short range is that it can’t be used for camping out in the woods. I struggle with the 315(ish) range of the Rivian - it would be impossible with 230. In cool weather, that range is more likely to be about 160-170. In other words, you have to stay within about 80 miles of a charger in cool weather. At best, maybe about 110 in ideal weather - and that’s if you charge to 100%. Using this vehicle as a camper would be really impractical, but it would be fine for an around the town vehicle. But for that scenario, it’s severely overpriced.

just wait few months. Given how bad the resale of EVs are theses days, less and less people wants to pay top dollars for an EV, especially ones with any market adjustment markups.

I saw one in person on the cape in Massachusetts. It looks very “twee & cute” in person and I am 100% certain that they’ll sell a bunch of them on nostalgia and funkiness alone. This was never intended to be a high volume vehicle appealing to the masses. And they’ll sell just as many as they planned to make.

Also: eff dealers and their outrageous market adjustment markups.

I just bought one for my mom two weeks ago. VW America is taking a very dim view on price gouging the Buzz. While there may some of that happening, I think it's rare and the exception. VW wants the Buzz out and about....not sitting on dealer lots. I was easily able to buy one at MSRP with a bunch of goodies thrown in. It was too easy and I kind of felt bad about myself afterwards for not negotiating.

It's a little pricey but it's very well thought out, designed and executed vehicle. The driving experience is really, really, really, really good. I was surprised how much I liked it. The range is perfectly acceptable for it's intended "mission" as a style conscious suburban assault vehicle. And at least it's driver identity is not pretending to be something it's not. Unlike the R1's "adventure" persona but be driven mostly as a mall crawler! And again, while a bit pricey I think it's actually better value as a total package than my R1 (which I love). The Buzz is a highly lauded vehicle for a reason!

Curious the gripes about price to range ratio. “Way to expensive for the range”
The fully loaded ID buzz is $72k for 231miles
The Dual Standard Rs1 is $83k for 270miles. Dollar per mile they come out pretty damn close.
