While I love my Rivian R1S, one of the features I really wish my car had was a Valet Mode. I know this sounds like a very bougie or pretentious request, however I paid a lot of money for this car and I live in Los Angeles, and I frequently have to Valet my car. I really don't like handing the key fob/ card to a valet as nothing is really protected. I wish there was a valet button at the top of the screen that I could push while in park mode that would lock the Frunk, lock the arm rest center console, hide my contacts, hide my maps, and most importantly not allow the car to go over 35 mph. Maybe to unlock it, it would require a 4-6 digit code you could enter? I know Tesla has had a Valet mode for at least a decade and I really wish Rivan would have one too. Does anyone else feel this way as well? Or has anyone heard anything about Rivian creating a Valet Mode?

yup, its needed. i suspect its on their roadmap, just not a priority. ive submitted it via their feedback form in the past.

i also think a guest mode could be useful where i can lock the ability to change drive modes and limit the speed/acceleration and maybe have a simple center screen with the basic climate, audio and map controls all on one screen. this allows folks who aren't as familiar with EVs or tech-heavy vehicles to borrow it and not feel overwhelmed

next time Wassym has an AMA on reddit, i'll bring it up there as well.

+1 on valet mode and some locking compartments! I wish they would take a lot of of the software features that Tesla has implemented over the years and do the same.

I've submitted this request as well. They could easily make it better than Tesla - all with software.

In my opinion Valet mode should:
Be controllable by the App or a PIN on the center screen
Drive mode is locked in Gen Purpose / speed limit 35MPH limited HP
Center Screen locked into Camera mode - no other center screen functions
Other than alerts/alarms, audio system stays off / locked out
HVAC - Allow Defrost and Defog but Heat max setting 63 degrees. Cooling min setting 82 degrees. (to discourage valet lunch breaks in your car... don't ask why I know this is a thing)
Only the front windows can go down in valet mode
Gear tunnel, center console, frunk, powered tonneau, tailgate stay closed/locked - override with app
Only the driver's door unlocks in valet mode (this could be a config setting)
App alert if car travels more than 1 mile from point valet mode was enabled
Charge port door stays unlocked in valet mode, even if car is locked to enable valet L2 charging.

Valet mode would be useful as would parental controls. I have a 14 year old and as of right now I do not have a vehicle appropriate for him to drive alone. Too fast and too much stereo for a 16 year old boy.

I have a little time, but as I’m buying the new tri motor, I will need to buy something with way less performance when he is able to drive.

I didn't let my kids drive my daily drivers or my wife's. Too much vehicle in both cases. Even if the R1T had a kid mode...still would have been a no go for me. We just always had to keep extra lesser vehicles so each kid had a vehicle to drive. They always understood they were all my vehicles....so if anyone messes up....no vehicle anymore.

But for those comfortable with kids driving their vehicles then it would be nice to have both a valet mode and a reduced performance mode. Could even put max volumes on the audio system, max torque output settings, stability forced on, etc....

Getting a cheap car for him is probably the route I'm going to take too, but it would be nice to have regardless. There could be a situation where my son needs to take my R1 or my wife's M car for an unforeseen reason and having a lockdown mode would make us feel better. Personally I am of the mindset of getting him an ICE car with no one pedal drive to learn on. I want braking in an emergency ingrained in his muscle memory as it is in mine.

In an emergency one pedal will not slow you enough but if you are used to using it for daily driving and never used the brake you may hesitate when milliseconds count.

Let’s face it… in 3-5 years, today’s gen1 R1’s will probably be the hand me downs that teenagers will be driving. Cars depreciate quickly.

Teen mode or Learner mode is not a bad idea. GM already has a teen mode on most of their cars.

Yes! Thank you for resurrecting this issue, OP. We need this one and soon. Additional valet mode feature requests/tweaks:

— The screen should tell the valet how to start the R1–meaning where to put the key card. Also, give off that friendly Gary vibe—maybe Gary can appear and say thank you for being careful (in a few languages). ;)

— Aside from providing basic operating instructions to the valet, I agree the screen should lock in on camera mode to minimize the chance of accidents.

— limit power/acceleration. I don’t love hearing my tires squeal. And I’d limit speed to 20mph or maybe lower.

— for R1s with a camera in the rear view mirror, turn it on and record while in valet mode.

— I’d love to have the option to get alerts if my R1 is moved or if there is a set amount of vampire drain, etc.

And yes, it SEEMS bourgeois to focus on this but it’s not when you live in the city and you basically have to garage it.
