Today I received my A2Z adapter. On reading the instructions that came with it. The instructions say to:
- Fully insert your adapter into the vehicle.
- Fully insert the the NACS charging handle into the adapter.

I had been under the impression that the NACS plug should be put into the adapter first, and then the whole unit put in the vehicle.

Which is correct?

We also purchased the A2Z NACS to J1772 adapter. These instructions say to plug the NACS plug into the adapter first and the into the vehicle.

I really don't think it matters much, but plugging into the vehicle first gives you a much sturdier hold to press the NACS plug into. Is it the original typhoon or the pro? The original is a bit tight at first, make sure you check to make sure it's unlocked before forcing the plug in and then manually lock it after

Yeah I’ve always plugged into the adapter first and have had no issues.

Thank you for your response. My A2Z is the Typhoon Pro Plug.

You’re correct. For each adapter they have their own recommended sequence.

For the Typhoon Pro please see the attached PDF and below instructions

You can do it either way. Some with less strength and coordination will find it easier to install adapter first.

I believe it's for leverage and as others have said ...ease of use.

The important thing is making sure charging is stopped before removing. I personally prefer to hit the stop button/circle on the Tesla supercharger handle to stop it.

Common sense would seem to dictate that you follow the manufacturer specific instructions that came with your specific adapter which you obviously have...

That's the plan but I like to run thing by the Forums members. There is a lot of real world experience here to tap into.

The first time I used my Typhoon Pro I couldn't disconnect the charger from the adapter after I stopped charging. My wife got a notice in the Tesla app to click the release lever on the adapter - I did that and the charger immediately released from the adapter. I then removed the adapter from the Rivian and all was good.

Thank you for the tip. I plan to do a test charge of our R1T at a Tesla Supercharger in the next couple of days.

That's exactly how we discovered it - a 5-minute test charge at the Wawa next to Costco. We initiated our charge from the Tesla app. It may be that it behaves differently if you have the charge go through Rivian without the Tesla app. Keep us posted - we're all learning!

If session completed, press the release on the adapter all the way. If not complete, end it with Rivian app or in-vehicle UI. Give it a few seconds and listen for a click or thunk coming from charge port. Then press release button on the adapter. The NACS plug will unplug with no resistance.
