Bummer for you to have to deal with this.

Seems like based on what you are saying you did not originally see it either. Sounds like something that shows in specific lighting and now that you have seen it, it is screaming at you to look at it.

If it is a lighting situation that exposes it probably not that hard to understand how it was missed. At least now they can add whatever lighting is needed to the QA processes looking for this.

Tesla had some major paint issues on the early Model 3 and Y models. Dirt in the paint, runs, etc. Our 2021 Model Y Pearl White paint job is near perfect.
There was a period in the early Model Y production run where you didn't dare order a White Model Y because almost every one of them had paint issues. I recall Elon mentioning that by simply adding a few extra seconds drying time under the lamps cured almost all the paint issues.

Makes you wonder if other LA Silver R1T's have the same issue?

Going by how Tesla remedied the cars that had already been delivered (not including the ones that Tesla simply said "are within spec"), I'd expect Rivian to refer the repair to a local paint shop.

It’s got tiger striping along the roof on both sides too…saw it today in direct sunlight. ?‍♂ Guess I’ll see what they can do but I dunno…

7day/1000 Mile guarantee. Excericise it!

It was like seeing a unicorn when it showed up and just blindsided by joy. And my delivery was a bit rushed. The guys were nice but it was a bit nerve wracking. They kept saying they had to get back to Dallas soon because of legal rules for working particular hours etc.

I’ll see how Monday’s convo with guide goes. I’m thinking either let them try repair it and if not to my satisfaction sell it for profit and get back in line. ?‍♂ I’ll make my decision by Wednesday. I’d prefer they take it back and get a new one.

I doubt you could sell it for a profit maybe same price but I'd just reject at this point and ask for another vehicle ASAP.

I’m sure Rivian has the equipment in house and setup for QC’ing paint, I just wonder how much training they’ve been able to give the QC team. I doubt Rivian has been offering relocation packages to line workers, so most of the people in that plant are learning on the job. Anyone with experience would have been from working for Mitsubishi over 5 years ago, and not to knock Mitsubishi, but I expect Rivian to have higher standards for quality.

My collision repair shop had some issues with tiger stripes when waterborne paint was new to us. It would happen only with silver and when we didn't have good overlap. We learned with practice, and even after the first coat, a nice slow 2nd coat from further distance would be sure to cover everything. I'm sure they can fix this. Just need to respray the hood. Color should match fine.

Unfortunately it’s not just the hood. Splotchy on some parts of the sides and has the striping on roof sides too. Not nearly as noticeable as hood but…I have a list of other things other than paint too. I emailed this list to guide and within 15 minutes heard from service team. Says they’ll get back with me with the “plan” tomorrow.

I see, cloudy/splotchy spots also happen with silver when it's sprayed dry (too far away or not enough material).

What else do you have on the list?
