To name but one OTA software benefit, the suspension performance improvements for handling smaller sharp impact bumps were really impressive IMO - a difference of sufficient magnitude that I would have expected to have to pay fairly significant money for it on a "normal" car.

I also think it's laudable that Rivian are offering the performance upgrade for the same price after the fact. $5k isn't a small amount of money, but when you look at the increased performance, it's great value (vs. what would be typical in aftermarket tuning). You also don't compromise warranty coverage.

I continue to be incredibly impressed with my G1 R1T, particularly as the first vehicle produced by a new entrant into the automotive business (with the perspective of previously being a Detroit-3 employee).

What's not to be expected is to be misled by the manufacturer as to the capabilities and support.
I've been working in tech since the 80s, and have developed an intuition of realistic expectations regarding what manufacturers market they can do vs what they will likely deliver and what upgrades they will provide. It is to be expected unfortunately. Apple, Compaq/HP, Microsoft, Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Cisco, Fortinet, Tesla come to mind immediately. Fortinet announced that they will not be providing firmware feature updates for devices with less than 4G of RAM, even though they are current products, leaving tons of installations in the dust, or needing to replace (not upgrade) their firewalls. I could go on forever with these examples, unfortunately. I'm not saying it's right but it's been this way for years.

You should always read the fine print when you sign contracts. Rivian.com/legal/terms

I'm sure there are others who are better at finding the CYA legalese that Rivian has in place--I've seen it before, but am not doing great at coming up with better, more complete sources.

But it's there. And readily available to peruse.

I'm not saying I don't want all of the cool features. But having an unreasonable expectation for them to make things work when the hardware isn't available is a good way to continue to be disappointed.

Failure to read the fine print does not constitute a breech of contract.
In other words, ignorance is not a substitute for being misled.

And having unreasonable expectations are the thief of joy!
Maybe we can all ask "What CAN my vehicle do that it couldn't when I took delivery?" (LOTS!)

And frame it that way, versus trying to frame it as some sort of bait and switch?
This is not about whether or not Rivian is legally responsible. Yes, I can read, and I fully understood the risks of purchasing from a new manufacturer.

This is about trust. I am attempting to help others realize that you cannot trust marketing materials, promotional/hype videos, or statements directly out of the mouth of the CEO.

And conversely, just because YOU are satisfied doesn't mean everyone has to be.

Remember, it's partially because people have come to *expect*, demand, or complain about updates that we get them at all. If not one single consumer agitated or complained about x, y or z feature not being provided, or *should* be, you'd be getting no OTAs at all. They'd just be held back for the next model cycle the way many legacy automakers still do it.

Can't please everybody ... ?‍♂
Rivian is NOT a legacy automaker. Rivian OTAs are delivered not because of your expectation, demands, or complaints. I wish that were true, LOL.

Anyone know if the go chime works if youre the first one in line and the light turns green?

It does not. It isn't linked to the light it's linked to the car in front of you. I"m assuming it uses the existing tech that is there for the adaptative cruise.

This is correct--I updated yesterday and tried both while driving. The chime worked when the car in front of me drove away, but nothing happens when first in line and the light turns green. They didn't say it would work with lights, but I was just testing anyway, cause everyone likes a good surprise...oh well, not this time! The others features seem to work well so far, and most importantly to me, there does not seem to be any bricking so far...!

Has anyone been able to switch their tire configuration yet? My is greyed out. When I try and tell it that I am changing the tires the next button is greyed out as well.

Again, you are wrong. And missing the point.

Rivian touted the scalability and future-proofness of the Gen 1 platform well after sales began. This is the reason many Gen 1 owners are upset. And the reason we continue to speak out is not because were upset that Rivian is making updates, it's to help new and prospective owners manage their expectations with regard to Rivian's Autonomy claims.

I have read nearly all of your posts on this forum and, largely, find you to be a thoughtful, intelligent, rational member of the community, but your desire to continue to actively discredit legitimate claims and warnings on the topic of autonomy is baffling.
NOTHING I have said is untrue. I'm sorry you have a bowl full of sour grapes, but shit happens. Rivian didn't intentionally mislead you; they tried making the promised features with the hardware present in Gen 1. It didn't work; the camera quality and onboard processors weren't good enough.

Trying and failing is different than intentionally deceiving buyers. You seem to forget how dire the component shortages were during the start of R1 production. For a startup company with absolutely no clout with suppliers, they got the bargain bin shit that was leftover from all the other manufacturers. Rivian still tried to make it work, but they couldn't.

You would have a case to complain if the Gen 2 didn't contain significantly different hardware and Rivian restricted Gen 1 to extort money. That's not what's happening here.

I saved over 20k dollars on my Gen 1 that I had to pay on my Gen 2. So, the early adopters got a one-time offer unavailable to new purchasers. Be grateful for what you have, and if you want the autonomy, Rivian has incentives on trade-ins for a Gen 2. That's what I did.

This statement is true for every single product ever made for as long as I can remember.

I’m in Canada so maybe we’re later in the cue, but it doesn’t seem to be showing up in my app/vehicle yet
Accordding to ElectraFi, there is now one R1T Quad in BC with the update. So, it seems to be rolling out up here too.

The average tax return is like $3k , granted the average person can't afford a Luxury car.

That’s kind of my point - if you are getting refundable tax credits then you probably aren’t in the income range where you should be considering a $5K upgrade to an $80K car. And if you pay enough taxes but are still getting a $5K refund then you need to adjust your withholding.

Average taxpayer doesn’t understand that their tax refund is due to them not properly adjusting withholding. Interest earned on that $5K free loan to the government could have paid the connect+ subscription fee for the year.
