I actually really like the styling. Works a lot better here than the iX3. The bigger proportions help visually to make it feel more complete.

My issues are the shared platform. This thing could have had a nice frunk. But nope. And is that a transmission hump I see in the middle? Probably.

Overall, I really like it and don't think the price is terrible for what it is but the compromises from a shared platform is borderline a deal breaker. Also, no split tailgate anymore? Huge loss there IMO that was the X5's signature feature.

As an R1 alternative, this is VERY strong. True luxury features with amazing range and fast charging times. If it comes out this year and I can spec it reasonably, certainly on my short list. This is my kind of car way more than the iX3.

In person it is executed very well. Have driven and sat in the iX3.

I have to chuckle at any of us who own a Rivian giving another car a hard time about the looks of the front end...
Are you insinuating that the Rivian headlights are anything less than perfect?

I love this as a two row r1S alternative. I like the Vancouver green and the tanzinite blue. The specs are fantastic and the pricing is very compelling IMO. It is $12k below a similar range R1 base model. The 470kw charging is genuinely future proofing in a meaningful way. It will be a road trip dream car.

I will be shocked if anyone drives away spending less than $100k. Sure that is R1 territory, but it definitely isn't cheaper.

Big BMW fan and can’t wait for an iX6 and iX7 but holy lord is that front atrocious. The tiny kidney grilles really make the car look ugly. Outside of that the features look really cool. Hope they figure out the design and make them look like current X6 designs.

Given how BMW sandbags ranges, I’d suspect this will be a 475-480 mile range vehicle. With what I’d suspect is achievable with the new drivetrain in terms of efficiency, ~3.3kWh/mile, with the big 144kWh battery it calculates to around that range.

I know they did it to tie into the X branding but I saw it as a nod to
Yep. And with the M-sport package you can set the running lights to a sodium yellow color, so quite a few fun little nods to motorsports.

Yeah, we don’t know what’s standard at this trim level, and also specifically on the BEV. Like air suspension on the current X5 is standard on the 50e PHEV model, i.e., the BEV flavor of the new X5 may be more of a middle tier trim (so less options needed to make it an extra nice ride).

I think there will be decently optioned cars without breaking $100K. That being said, we’ve learned that we’ll spend the extra to make it exactly what we want. We’ve never regretted spending extra for options (but have had a few moments of “Wish we would’ve gotten X”)

Stoked about the iX5 to replace our iX but will absolutely consider and review an R1S again (since like you pointed out is the comparable market segment).
