As the TFL Ike towing test demonstrated the charging infrastructure needs to be configured to be able to charge without disconnecting a trailer. Make your opinion heard. Links to some of the charging companies contact info.

The issue is how inconsistent charger port placement is on EVs. DCFCs have necessarily short cables. It reduces the energy loss and greatly decreased the chance the cables get damaged.

The other issue is people will use those spots because they are bigger and easier.

I am amazed how often I pull into a supercharger that is 80% or more empty and people are using the designated handicap spots. Those should always be the last spots people use.

I’d like to have more faith in people but….

Yes, they should all be like the Supercharger in Carlton, MN:

Plenty of space to pull up next to the curb without unhitching on the side that is labeled for towing.

I can tell you by looks alone (using the older park lines as indicators) that space isn't anything near enough to handle a vehicle the length of a truck + a trailer. Had it been marked longer (for example all the way to last line on the far left), then I'd say yeah, this is a good solution, but as it is currently that looks to fit a shorter EV with a shorter trailer. It will not cover the majority of other, longer based EVs + longer trailers.

Looks to be about 90 feet of room with the charger located approximately in the middle. That would let a CT pull through and have the back aligned with the charger, leaving ~40 feet for a trailer. Obviously a tighter fit if someone ever had the opportunity to plug an R1T into it for charging with the port at the front of the truck. Even without a trailer though, charging the R1T would be a problem at a lot of SC locations unless you "block" the adjacent charger.

I think that trailer friendly charging stations will be coming in the near future. Even though we plan to tow our Airstream travel trailer with our R1T we are not too concerned about it. It only takes me a couple of minutes to unhitch nearby and get to the charger.
