The only time that I've seen Rivian deny a free replacement, the owner admitted to bracing himself on the glass of the roof while washing it. While I agree, a roof should be strong enough to support a moderate amount of weight, I wouldn't brace much of my weight on any metal components of any vehicle I own. They are all made to the minimum thickness in order to save material, weight, and most importantly cost.
The roof glass is pretty thin all things considered. I have no issue walking across the crossbars on the roof, but I sure as hell would not step on the glass roof. Guaranteed to fall right through it.

Hi,

I have owned a few Tesla over the years, I have ceramic tinted all the window including the windshield by a local tint shop in Orange County CA. Few weeks ago my friend tinted a Model X including the windshield, cost is a little over $1,000 but what a difference he just got back from Vegas with no problems with heat. I am having my R1T (all) windows tinted on Saturday and will post the photos of before and after.

After our recent road trip where we saw temps from 85-100 I had all the windows (front, rear, sides and roof) tinted with 70% 3M Crystalline. What a difference it made in the cabin temps. The biggest benefit is the HVAC system actually now works and keeps the cabin cool with very little effort.

R u planning on getting ceramic tint to the panoramic roof as well? If yes, I would like to know how it looks at night from inside the cabin. I mean would we be able to gaze at stars? Looking forward to the pics and cost if you dont mind sharing the price tag for ceramic tint

Hi,

Today I am having the wheels powder coated gloss black and tint will be done tomorrow. Every window will be tinted including the sun roof.

While it might be expensive, I wonder if a ceramic tint on the outside of the sunroof, (cut to the dimensions of the opening inside), with a layer of Exoshield over the entire roof glass, would provide some infrared relief, without darkening the glass too much. I've heard people on the interweb saying that putting tint on the inside can cause the glass to retain too much heat and ultimately explode, but others have exploded that as a myth.

In addition to the heat reduction, that double layer would also provide a modicum of protection from at least small rocks and debris from breaking the glass while rolling down the highways, byways, and trails.

Although the combo of ceramic tint and Exoshield may reduce the heat intrusion while driving, I'm still looking for other options to shield it when parked. In addition to interior options, other ideas include custom building/retrofitting something for the outside that would latch to the mounting points for the Cargo Bars, or attach directly to them to keep the sun from ever hitting/going through the glass. Maybe neither would be a pretty solution, but if it keeps the heat out when I'm not in it, or while camping, I'd be good with that.
I thought tint goes on the inside of the window

By design, it does go on the inside. As I mentioned, others have stated that they've had the roof glass explode on their Tesla, and they believe the ceramic tinting was the cause ("I've heard people on the interweb saying that putting tint on the inside can cause the glass to retain too much heat and ultimately explode, but others have exploded that as a myth.").

My tint specialist believes any issue others may have had was likely a rare window problem with Tesla. Nothing certain, but he felt my plan was unnecessary. In that he's the expert, and he could have charged me handsomely to try my method, I trust his word.

He didn't recommend PPF as opposed to tint?

PPF, or "Paint Protection Film", is used to cover painted surfaces, whereas tint, whether ceramic or not, is designed for windows. As I've mentioned elsewhere, Exoshield is great for the outside surfaces of the windows and roof glass. It provides greater protection against breakage and pitting from small rocks and debris. At some size and speed, even small rocks can damage or break the glass it collides with.

I agree, very thin and bendy. I frequently have a camera mount suckered up to the (inside) of the glass roof, when installing in the Rivian, the glass very visibly bends, and this is near the edge. Never seen that in any of our Tesla's. Installing the bars up there, single-handed, must be a very high-risk activity.

Man, i've been looking at all the options posted here, but has anyone seen any option that looks like what they offer on amazon for Tesla? I have one of these and it just has a couple clips that hold it against the edge but honestly it works so well. Hopefully one of these chinese manufacturers will create something for the Rivian. I think the Rivian glass in my car lets in more heat than my model 3s 🥵

I was looking for something similar for the Rivian. I had these on my model 3 and loved it.

Working on it ;) Early days, but if anyone wants to know when we have them in stock, there's a notify option here.
