As one of the pre-IPO investors I also add in ... and it's awesome, you should buy one. I have been stopped by two different people who were interested in buying one but nervous to put down the deposit, I actually think I got them over the fence. Rivian needs a referral program, maybe send me some free swag.

For me, the “what is it” & “who makes it”, is always followed with “how much does it cost”. And then somehow they’re trying to make me feel bad that it was $80k…….. “wow, that’s a lot”.

Them: How much power does it have?
Me: It's 800+ HP, quad motor ...
Them: That's impossible, you are thinking torque
Me: No torque is ...
Them: I would miss the exhaust sounds
Me: ...

If they had asked if I missed the exhaust sounds then I would have answered, but it's just a statement to make themselves feel better. No point in trying to counter it.

This thread is very informative. Now when I get my truck I can have some creative answers ready to go. Just brainstorming:
What is it?
me: “It’s a NASA lunar rover”
Is it electric?
me: “No, it’s powered by the tears of orphaned children”
Who makes it?
me: “I made it in my garage last weekend”
How much did it cost?
me: “Nothing. They were handing them out for free down at the DMV”

How does everyone approach the "how much does it cost" question. I have been saying "I paid $70k for it" which is technically true, but obviously if you put in an order for that same truck now it would be over $90k. Curious to see what everyone else is saying to that question.

I could fill a book with the amount of interatctions I've had with this truck. I've been to a Ford Dealer and a Dodge dealer for work. The flock of customer and employees that come outside and see is incredible. lol I have to run to the service department.

I went to Land Rover with my dad to check on his order and drive a demo of the new Range Rover. They tossed the keys to this $130k SUV while they clamored over my truck. Customers, managers, and everything.

I'm very appreciative but boy is it jarring when you're not prepared or need to go somewhere. I've never tinted a vehicle so fast

I get tripped up on this all the time! So many people ask. I can't tell if its rude or not. I always say $77k as it what mine was. Then I wonder what happens when they go online lol

I don't have my truck yet but I'm not telling anyone how much it costs. They can go look it up if they want. It's one thing to ask what it is and specs but I'm not telling a stranger how much I paid for it. Maybe I'd tell close family but that's it.

I got that a fair bit with my 2015 Tesla S early on. My response was to quote the latest base price, and then remark that I had added options that would increase the price. I never tell people how much I spent.

I can't even count the number of times I've been filmed on the road by other cars driving by. Some are pretty open about it but I enjoy seeing the ones who are trying to be super stealthy with their phone. I like popping the frunk on people when they are staring at it or taking pictures to get them to jump.

I had the cost question once and I was kind of caught off guard. I felt like I had to explain the evolution of the costing structure. I think now I will say it is similar to a high end F-150 or Silverado actually a little less.
