just curious, what was the language in Rivian's email that was asking you to confirm? In Oct, mine had "next 4 months" in the email. If yours said the same thing I'd totally say they were misleading you and you should get your money back.

If this is actually true and Rivian asked someone to confirm an order that was a year out then I think Rivian is in the wrong here. From what I was told when I confirmed was that my order was in the build queue and that's the reason for the confirmation.

That isn't true a year out, and there is no reason for Rivian to require anyone confirm an order that far out.

It's understandable that your deposit becomes non-refundable when you confirm your order, but as others have posted, it's unreasonable for Rivian to then give you a delivery date so far in the future. If that's truly what happened in this case, Rivian really should refund the deposit.

One thing that's a bit unusual is that it looks like not everyone confirms their order in the same way. For example, I never got an email inviting me to confirm, but have a confirmed configuration nonetheless. This is likely because I'm one of the legacy reservation holders, from pre-configurator days. I don't recall at what point my account noted that my configuration was confirmed, but it was quite some ago and something that occured without email notification.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Rivian came through and refunded me $1000. They are a good company to look at the details and make exceptions to rules to try to do right.

Of course they did, legalities aside, they received income they really can't record on their books in good faith as a public company subject to SOX. They are loosing ~35K per vehicle at this point, much better than $100K+, but your $1K isn't worth the paperwork headache.
